QUOTE- don't mention India - what about people who come to Canada directly from India (and many of them would have had their first foreign trip)
I am not sure what exactly you are saying here.
UNQUOTE

Your goal is to get an interview. After that it is up to you to convince your interviewer to hire you.

So, in your resume don't mention the name of your university, just give your qualification, don't mention the name of the towns/cities you worked in in India, keep the place of origin as ambiguous as possible as far as your resume is concerned. Get a canadian style resume, but follow the above rules. Once you are at the interview, IF ASKED, you can go ahead and give the name of your univ or cities where you worked.

Also, don't write big introductions about the companies you worked for in India and how great those companies are. Here they are only interested to know what YOU can do.

Very good suggestions from Blue Lobster and Garvo.

Good luck!

the truth is what we go thru every day..! at work you do feel you are not liked, just coz you are smart, u know everything..they always want their own relatives and friends to benefit from these good jobs, obviouly with less qualifications than us, but this is the truth, we will have to survive with this, it is hard to take this all out of decayed system..our kids will enjoy the life they have right now, as to "choose the career and only do what you want to do"...stuff

OR

open our own business and compete with...

hi

i came on student visa in sept 2003 . i am glad that i came on student s visa and did not wait for immigration as i am 21 yrs of age now.

after reading most of the candian desi posts and being a die hard follower of candian desi i am thankfull to all those behind it.

i would say and suggest that people who are thinking of ,moving to canada and are in similar state as mine and confused on wether to wait for making points for immigration or come on students visa .i would suggest one should come on students visa ( if they wanna come at all to canada after reading all this ) as no matter what the qualifications are what their experience is one has to struggle doing labour jobs in canada then why not do the labour jobs while you study ( though illegally ) and gain canadian education and improve your chances of getting a job .more over one has to satruggle in life no matter what his qualifications are to get that big break it's only that the type of struggle is different ; then why not struggle in canada and make that struggle reap fruits for lifetime and on top of that you wont get frustrated on not getting a job as well in your field as you are not allowed to do that.

right now i am doing a job and earning enough to keep me going and getting all that precious time to look for a job and feel canada and at this age i can also think of moving back or moving somewhere else and with candian education will definately get a better job in india then what my b.com qualification would have fetched me.

i have the time to look for job and network with people and understand canada and then decide wether to" live or leave canada"

thanks to all those who have posted their articles and specially to chandresh and garvo gujrati for making this site even more informative.

Nishit,

That is good advice for some of the younger immigrants.

At 21, you're in Canada at absolutely the best age. You may have to struggle too but time is on your side, a privilege most immigrants here don't have. Plus, because you're studying, you'll know the "system" thoroughly by the time you're ready to get a job. And that helps a lot.

If you don't mind, could you elaborate on what job you're doing? You don't have to be too specific if you don't want to, but the info may help other prospective students.

Hi Friends,

I am also one of the prospective immigrant...likewise the group members, I took the decision of moving to Canada ( 2.5 Years ago) for better quality of life...I have just become the member of this wonderful club....

I would like bring your notice that we are discussing the prospects of moving to Canada and Getting Good / Odd Jobs only in some areas. The weightage of most discussion is being given to IT , Accounting and Engineering ( Civil / Construction) Sectors..whereas I strongly feel that we must also discuss other areas as well. What is the situation in other field(s)....Like Marketing, Sales to Industries /Institutions or Super Market / Channels, what are the prospects in Production / Quality / Light / Heavy Engineering Industries. What is happening in R&D and Design and Development for New Innovative products ...I mean to say the specialists Job...Like Designing Engineers, Law Professionals / Advocates, Educationalists / Professors / Lecturers, Marketing / Sales Professionals, fabrication / Production / R& D Managers People working in Service Industries...Like Couriers, Cargo, Avaiation, telecom, food and Beverages etc.

;)
My request to the group is that we should also share the Job prospects relating to other trades like Travel & Tourism , Hospitality, General Sales & Marketing FMCG / Consumer Durable / Non Durable and Automotive and light / heavy engineering Industries and other generic professions so that many new people would be able to contribute (Actively, as we have been asking that there are more than 2500 members but only a few contribute...) and share their experiences...And my gut feel is that we are somehow giving this message (Which we never intended) that we would want to talk about only on the some subjects.

The reason I am asking this that I have understood very little of the general marketing trends and I really don't know that what could be the best way to succeed in Canada while we are settled backhome and leading a reasonable life. As we all know that the current trend of asking to have Canadian Experience may mean in some way that if we \"posess multidimensional\" qualities thru which you can start and adapt a new Culture in your life. Are we open enough to take this \"Cultural Challange\"

Even the immigration policy wants people with multi skills so that the Canadian economy can offer you a job to survive....Further, I have heard from different people , whatever my contacts have told me..say it is very easy to get Labour Jobs and also if you are OK you can even Get a permanent Job within no time....especially in the field of Sales / Marketing.....

After I have gone through in detail, I realy do not know that my decision is right to move to Canada just in the first instance or I need to look for something here backhome.....

.I am a marketing personnel with no Canadian experience (Yet 12 Years of Indian Experience) would want to know your views and information / experiences in my field at least to start with...

Please understand my concern.....

Warm regards

Amit
