Since ur GC is applied for by your employing Company u r literally at their mercy for evrything esp salary and work and they call the shots .More so since they know that u depend on them for the GC and GC these days takes long.

I would like to say something regarding point number 3. I am finding Desi girls smoking and dressed in a not so good way, hear about Indo-Canadian gangs, etc, etc. One good you can say is that being a resident, college fees are not expensive, compared to the fees that you have to pay as a H4(son/daughter). The kids can work, if they want to.

We like Canada now. We think it is a better place for retirement.
But had we got our Green card , we would have stayed in the USA.
I still like USA..
:)

Do we have a sense of belonging / identification with Canada after spending a few years or do we still feel like aliens as in the US ?

Thanks everyone for the comments,

Dalitoi,
I guess, my Canadian experiences will have to be a whole new thread by itself.;)
It will be a sound move on your part to experience Canada and make a decision on your permanent stay. Before, you leave US, study the job situation in Canada with respect to your nature of work. This forum offers a wealth of info and experience on job search. Your present N.America experience will give you a slight advantage since you have references and \"bag of tricks\" on how to tackle interviews. All the best to you.

Alexm,
I think the \"desi-profiling\" is a necessary evil for the security of America. It's a tragedy that Indians with no links to 9/11 or terrorism have been clubbed into this category. The only solution for this is for Americans to know, learn and understand about India and its inhabitants. I doubt, if this knowledge will come to the ordinary Americans in our lifetimes. The easy way out is to live in countries like Canada where the awareness is quite high and thus make our lives less humiliating and much easier.

Nirakar,
As an ex-H1B with a desi company and with loads of friends on GC, i will safely say that life on a GC is a hell!!. The Bond or contract to stay bonded with companies is illegal in US. But, companies especially desi's exploit the loophole in GC that \"you always need to be with one company and on their payroll for the time the GC formalities to be completed\" to the hilt.
They can decide to send you anywhere on assignment, make cuts in your pay, make you learn what they deem fit and still be safe in the knowledge that you will be with them for the time required to get your GC which is anywhere from 4 to 8 years. I am not saying that all desi companies will exploit you. But, the intent and knowledge is always there in the back of their minds.

Peace,

seenappa

Desi in Alberta,

Why didn't you explain what seenappa was saying in that sentence if you did not have difficulty understanding it?

Why the hell you have to tell me that you did not have difficulty understanding it?

I am glad you did not have difficulty understanding the paragraph written by seenappa. May be you grew up speaking English or may be English is your native language.

English is not my native language and I have been speaking English for less than 7 years now. I do not have problem saying I did not understand something if I did not understand it. I do not have to pretend like I am a smart ass like you.

Keep your mouth shut if you do not have anything important to contribute to my query.

seenappa,

Thank you so much for explaining what "emotional blackmail" is in very simple way so that I could understand it. I appreciate you taking the time to reply my query. I would also like to thank you for sharing your views on Canada and USA. You have done great job putting together information to people like me who is thinking about making Canada future home.

I am going to start with Desi firm as I do not have any other options at this moment. I may not wait for a GC, even though I do not mind having a GC in the US. But I would never become a US citizen. I have promised to myself, my family, and friends that I will never become a US citizen even though there is nothing wrong with that. I like this country and I having wonderful time here. As soon as I get Canadian PR, I will move to Canada and become a Canadian citizen and I will live there with my family happily ever after.

Have a wonderful day.

-Nirakar

I may not wait for a GC. I will work in H1-B until I get my Canadian PR. As soon as I get my PR, I will move to Canada. I hope I am not an unfortunate one if I dot not wait for a GC.

Thanks Smiley.
