My family would be immigrating from India to with family class immigration... i wish to seek advice from recent immigrants and all the CD's who are aware of the new rules......is an INCOME TAX CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE required to be shown at the airport these days? the information i have collected says that in present times there's no need for the certificate when u have an immigration visa in hand already.... is it true?

Somewhere I heard that it's not required now.But just make sure from other's as well
Hi!
Out of fear, i got an income tax clearance certificate in April 2002 (after paying rs. 2000 bribe and loitering around for 2 days) but no one at the airport asked me for it.
Just my experience.

Thanx for replying back to the thread...it was really bothering me. the travel agents all of whom i contacted, refused that there wasn't any requirement as of now, and they dont bother with it especially when u have an immigration visa....i checked with the income tax office and the staff members there...gave subtle hints about "you know what" and a wise guy told me not to waste my sleep over it and that its a rule its not required. Reading your posts, am relaxed!
thank you

Clearance was not required when I came to Canada in 2004 but there was a form which was required to be filled to inform the income tax office that you were migrating from India.
Do a search on this website & you'll find that thread which I had posted alongwith the fact that I had to pay $50 at Mumbai airport for not carrying police clearance certificate taken within last 7 days. I do not know if this is a requirement or not but I had to pay a bribe of $50.
Rgds.

Let's make India a better place !
hi,
presently there is no need to take income tax clearance certificate.the provision has been delated by the income tax authorities.
ptm
Yes it is required. You are currently a citizen of India and are planning to immigrate to another country. How does one guarantee that you have all filed your tax returns?? and are not fleeing..The same question for a police clearance certificate.. Why do you require it. To prove and determine to the canadian authorities that you do not acriminal or have any cases pending against you.apply the same logic here.Indian immigration will request to see the IT clearnace certificate at the time of departure and if you dont have the necessary clearance you will be in trouble. It is better to be safe than sorry.
