Hi I just arrived in Canada on a work permit (1 year) visa - after living in the US for the previous 10 years. Discovered this website while hunting for a place to stay. Can anyone tell me if person on work permit visa is allowed to buy property in Canada? If so, next question will be about a loan, I have no credit history in Canada but I do have good credit in the US. Do any Canadian banks consider US credit history? Thanks to all.

Yes, you are allowed to buy property. Also, banks do consider US credit history. You have to provide your Social Security number for them to run a credit check. I know for sure CIBC, National Bank of Canada and TD will agree to run your US credit. Car dealers have also accepted US credit history. Hope this helps.
