Hi,
for getting a visa for your grand father you need to know the following
1. that you should have a good annual salary and atleast one assessment from the CRA
2. your grandfather should not have medical problems which is seen as a threat to the Canadian free medicare system (i.e. overburden it in any way)
3. your grand father should have good property and a regular income (pension, return from stocks etc...)
if your answer to the above 3 Q's is favourable, i donot see any reason why the embassy could refuse him a visa.
The Visa site encourages a Single entry visa for the first time. Even a single entry visa is valid for 6 months ( and can be renewed for another 6 months max..) so you effectively get 1 year.
if you need to dicsuss any specifics of his situation, please share it in this board. Some one will have an answer for it.

Does the Visa have any start & finish date or is valid for six months from date of landing, an upper limit for date of landing
