For those who have lived in USA ,What will be your order of preference for living in top5 states out of 50 states in USA ,where we can bring up kids in somewhat our own culture (concentration of Indians)and ofcourse free of snow and far off from hurricanes.
Any experiences

Hi,

I would suggest California. A lot of Indians are in bayarea. You can keep up the culture and the weather is good. But the real estate is so high.

Houston and Dallas,TX has a lot of Indians too. It gets hot in summer but managable. Real estate is cheap.

Hi,

I've lived in Florida, Los Angeles(California), New York state and Ohio.

The best place I've found to live is in Bay Area. You are 30 minutes away from the beach, about 3 hours from snow (Lake Tahoe)and about a nights drive from desert(Nevada-Las Vegas).

There are plenty of high quality universities (UCLA, USC, Caltech, Stanford, UCSB)for your children and also for your skill upgradation. The temperature is ideal 22 Deg C.The draw back is that homes cost million Dollars and you would spend 25-30% of your income on rent and you need to watch out for the occassional earth quake.

My vote is for Bay area. The second choice would be either Texas or Florida(hot and humid). I hated New York and Ohio for the snow.

In terms of city I loved Los Angeles for the wide range of choice it offered. You even have many GuruDwaras there. It is like Delhi. It is highly crime ridden and racially divided. While Newyork city is more like Bombay.

If only Hawaii had opportunities for non service sector !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

who would make you starve, if you don't.'"

I don't know much about TX. Florida - most cities on or near the beaches are nice.
There's not much in Central Florida, though.
Depends on what kind of work/job you are going to do.
My personal favourites are Pensacola and Boca Raton.
Gainsville is a nice town too (mostly University).
Key West is great too ;)

Hi,

As pratickm says it depends on the job what you are going to do.

In Texas, south Houston or The woodlands (which is the northern suburb of Houston), are fine. Some say that Dallas is also good.

What about Atlanta?

I heard the city is not very big. Property prices are reasonable. Good job prospects as few big american companies have their headquarters like Coca Cola, Delta, CNN and also CDC.
