Hi,
Finally got my visa stamped after almost three years of processing and double medical tests, lost papers and having to see the online status as "in process" for so looooooooong. Heck, it still says in-process.
Anyway, my plans are to cross into Canada from Niagra falls sometime in May and the come back after a couple of days. The final move would be around September end. What I need to find is that if there a peak time that we should avoid at the border crossing. I remember seeing in some thread that we should avoid weekends and holidays. What are the normal waiting times during such days. Would reaching the border on Friday be any better specially if we reach it only late in the afternoon or early in the evening?
Even if I aim for a non-peak time, what kind of time frame are we looking at. I know that individual experiences may vary and I don't intend to sue anyone if I have to wait longer.
I have a couple of other questions, but I will leave those for other threads if I can't get an answer for those by searching charcha.
Regards,
Souvik
Wait times at the border are very very unpredictable. One thing to keep in mind is if there are holidays on either side of the border it does affect the wait-times.
As an example, on one occassion I was crossing over at around 10pm at Fort Erie on Sat nite I had to wait over 45 minutes. At around 11pm the wait time had reduced to under 10 minutes.
You can check the wait times at the Canada Border Services Agency website - http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/general/times/menu-e.html

Best time to cross is when it is convenient to you. Re-scheduling your entire programme may be more troublesome than waiting 20 minutes extra at a rush time.
On other hand, by corollary, most convenient times are likely to be peak times. But waiting time, in any case, would be in minutes and not in hours.
