Again I would like to digress away from the topic in response to Meghal. I know fully well about Meghals background from the earlier threads, and I'm not trying to attack her or her state. I've lived in Gujarat and it was one of the best times in my families lives. We lived in Ahmedabad, Valsad, Atul to name a few and I've visited most of Gujarat. I've a lot of respect for Gujaratis.
The point I would like to make(to reiterate once again, which was earlier shot down by BL : I do not understand what he his writing, hopefully it should make sense to some one atleast!)directly, unlike tongue-cheek before is that the biggest mistake Gujaratis do, is not participating in the local politics of the country of their residence. The gujaratis who are peace loving citizens, get into small business, build it to empires and also invest heavily in real estate. But the biggest mistake they do is that they do not participate in the local politics. I can give examples starting from Uganda, Kenya to US of A. You'll rarely see a gujarati in public life or in government jobs. Most of them will never run for political office, never take up law enforcement or public offices which involve policy making or policy enforcement. Even in India today, everybody knows that India's Industrial policy is made in Colaba and not in South block. How many politicians you have in the top cabinet other than Praful Patel?. In todays times when Gujarat is targetted by the Central government, shouldn't there be somebody who should put the Gujarat's people point of view?.I do not know whether to laugh or cry, when Amir Khan says it is BJP that has banned his movie Fanaa, when he was pointed out that many Congress politicians in Gujarat are also supporting the stand against Amir Khan, to which he cooly responded that he did not know that. If there was a true congress politician from Gujarat he could given the true picture of the Gujarat people's sentiments.
The real reason of participating in the local politics is not just to meddle with the local politics, but atleast stop policies going against you. The classic case was that Narendra Modi was denied a visit visa, while Laden family was air lifted from US of A, when there was a total ban on the air craft movement over US of A right after 9/11.At many of the African countries, whenever there was a coup or blood shed, the first people who were attacked and made to flee where the gujaratis. They left behind their land, hard earned money and their businesses.Eventhough these types of situations will not happen in Canada, you never know which way the foreign policy/visa issual/future immigration policy would go.
I strongly request each one of the Gujaratis in this site to involve in your local politics, let your children take up key government jobs and also if possible get into law enforcement/policy making jobs.
Hope I've not hurt any Gujaratis sentiments and if so sorry for the same.

Speech by Thomas Friedman of The New York Times....
"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our
vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the
starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my
children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"
