The best way to crub this is by starting similar practice by other (non=muslim) students in the same school and other GTA schools.
What people dont understand is that Canada has religion in schools in the form of the Catholic Dist school board..
The admissions to those schools are discriminatory in that they dont admit kids whose parents are non catholics.
Allowing friday prayers is just a small issue..
The bigger issue no one wants to tackle is taking on the dual school boards.
Since islam is a minority religion it is easier to take it on and to top it off the once that are taking on the minority are people of other minority religions..
Big deal if some kids want to pray..
I cant believe people come to this country and all of a sudden become so conservative..
In india we have the loud 11 day ganpati , dandia, holi and the mosques with their loud namaz,.. We just accept it as a part of life and continue, somehow we come to canada and start making noise about little things..
If canada is truely serious about not allowing religion in school then the first thing that should go is the dual school system..
There s a lot of difference b/w Canada & India ... India is majorly a Hindu country , hence Hindu festivals have more importance ... Much like Canada has Christmas and other associated festivals .
However meddling with school's purpose which should be to study and not religious practices is definitely worth a controversy . What do we expect as a next demand- 'Friday Off ' or madrassas ?
What is to be understood here is that such practices would only increase the bridge between students of a community and others and risk to stereotype the school .

KOLAR: Karnataka education minister Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri has said that it the duty of every Indian to respect sacred Hindu text, Bhagavad Gita, else they should leave the country.
"The Bhagavad Gita is like the Sun. I think that it is the duty of every Indian to respect the Bhagvad Gita like they respect other elements surrounding them. I strongly feel that if someone does not respect it, they have no place in India. They should leave the country and settle abroad," said Kageri.
Rebuking the strong statement issued by the minister, the state opposition and chief of Janata Dal-Secular, H D Deve Gowda said India is a secular country.
"It (India) is a secular country. Kageri should read the Constitution 100 times to understand this. It is a secular country. Every religion has got it's own protection. One cannot teach these fellows; they have abruptly come to power because of the misdeeds done by Congress," said Gowda.
Earlier on July 9, Kageri issued a circular proposing that Bhagavad Gita should be taught to schoolchildren at least for an hour on a daily basis.
The circular has been challenged by the Karnataka State Minorities Educational Institutions Managements Federation, which has filed a petition in the state high court.
