Hello CD members,
Recently i had been to a pet shop for window shopping and i was agast in seeing the prices. An alsation (German Shepard) puppy was listed at $2000. Dogs of various other varities (like bull dogs) were also quoted with high rates.
I have contacts in India who can sell me puppies at 2-5% (of the quoted rates in Canada). This looks like a very lucrative business to me. Besides we also have USA as our neighbour to which we can expand this business.
Has any Desi have similar ideas? This looks like an area where returns can be maximum even if we consider all possibilites of expense.
How is the customs regulations in Canada.
Also a Veterinary doctor both in India and Canada need to be involved in this business for various treatments/ inoculations/ medical paperwork. I already know the people listed above +a registered vet. doctor in the USA who is also registered in Ontario.

Unless you are willing to put the time and money into breeding pure bred, high class dogs, please do not even consider doing this business. These puppies you see in the pet stores are bred in awful circumstances, just see the link for more details.
Buying from a pet store, you have no idea of where the dog came from, any deseases he may have, what desases he may be prone to in later life, any social/mental health problems he may have which can affect the way he behaves around humans and other animals....you have to consider all these things when buying a puppy or breeding puppies, and if you don't then you have no respect for animals and are supporting the terrible people that run puppy mills and putting money in the pockets of these same people.

PP,
I was talking about breeding pure animals from India and then brining them in as 2 week old puppies and then selling them.
Remember, Dogs (or animals) donot have the 6th sense as we humans do and hence there will be no social problems to the puppy. It just needs a good family to be sold into. We will have it checked buy an Indian vet. doctor in India and a Canadian vet. doctor in Canada before selling them.
Please see this as a pure business venture.
TK A
Sidenote : I will not be breeding any puppy. This business is only buying a puppy in India, Transporting it to Canada and selling it to a pet store in USA and/ or Canada.

What do you know about dogs TK? Have you ever had one? Do you propose that you remove a two week old puppy from it's mother and familiar surroundings and it's siblings?

Registered breeders would never dream of selling a puppy to it's new family until the puppy is at least 8 weeks old. Before that, if taken away from it's mother and siblings, a puppy cannot and will not develop the important socialization skills that it needs in order to be the kind of dog that every household would like.

See below.

I agree with PP ... TK

I think you are wrong that dogs do not have a 'sixth sense' ..that people do. If you own a dog or have ever owned one..you will know that dogs are very social creatures that understand emotions, and that also display emotions. They can be sad, distressed, happy, joyful etc.

Most dog lovers will NOT buy from a petstore. There is no way to verify where the dogs came from - and often have been known to be from puppy mills.

Please... do not consider this sort of business. There are many dogs sitting in shelters..homeless.abused or unwanted because of impulse purchases and people unwilling to care for their pets. if you want to work with animals..why dont you first volunteer with a shelter ?

PP,
My dad is a vet. doctor. I have been watching him right from my childhood. I have seen so many peole who breed dogs and then sell them in a week. i donot see any big deal in this. Note that Dogs donot have the sixth sense that the human has. (I wonder if you have seen Dogs eat what it had just thrown up). As i had already told, Please treat this just as a business venture.

Sidenote : I want to share this aspect with CD members. While in practice, my dad has his watch broken, his foot fractured and his temple scratched while he was treating cows. So i bore a gurdge against cows. When we went for an all india tour, in Jaisalmer, i found a calf trying to hit me. I gave it a nasty kick on the leg that it ran away. One of my rich class girl was agast on seeing this and she scolded me for this. I did not care and just scolded her back. Just a recolection of my college days.

I hope your father had more compassion for the animals then you do.

on a side note: obviously the calf had a sixth sense! He knew you had a grudge against cows

good riddance.
