My dad is not an IAS officer but a lawyer and knows all the local cops hence no action. We threatened the dog catchers that they were molesting women and we could have easily got as many witnesses as we needed. Who bothers about the cruel and mean dog catchers and the memory of the bricks hitting their heads gives me such pleasure to this day. You know why because when they catch a dog with a lasso they drag it with such brutality that the poor dog almost dies of suffocation.

And for your information as well as other animal loving members in this forum do you know how some of the municipalities kill the stray dogs in India? They have an apparatus which looks like a huge scissor which they put it around the dog’s neck and they then kill it by putting pressure on the apparatus so the poor dog dies slowly by strangulation. Pretty mean isn’t it I wonder which religion allows such cruelty.

Oh and by the way I never donate to any charity for human causes but I generously donate to the Humane Society because I like animals so much.

Thanks for sharing that information - I wasnt aware of this happening.

In India, where cows are allowed to roam the streets as sacred animals..and from what I understand hinduism respects all life forms especially animals (right???)..why are dogs treated this way?

There is a saying..i dont remember the exact words.. that you can tell a lot about a person (or society) by how they treat their most vulnerable citizens....

Im not saying india vs canada..or that its better here...

MR,

I appreciate your concern and love for our mute friends. I say mute because even till this day I can remember the face of the female dog the day she lost all her puppies. She was holding and licking kittens that were around and after that she would utter a sorrowful moan. Who says humans are intelligent and compassionate when we treat our less fortunate friends in such a manner because these mute animals cannot even express their pain.

The information that I have provided happened in the early 90’s and I remember watching a television program. I will throw up if I describe it and that’s one of the many reasons that I am so happy in Canada. The majority of the people who I know here take very good care of their pets. In Hinduism you are expected to feed a cow and dog before you eat your food but somehow animals rights was never a big movement in India till Menaka Gandhi became a union minister. Things have improved a bit now stray dogs are no longer killed in some of the major cities. Also PETA is playing an active role in India now. When you mentioned that cows are worshipped in India well that’s true but do some research on the way cattle are treated in India before they are slaughtered. It’s highly disturbing and one of my dreams is to make enough money and donate it all for charities, which take care of stray animals.

Peace,

Nikhil

Wow.. talk about a flame war..
Let me see if I can get this back to the original posting without getting any emotions. Just for the sake of full disclosure I love dogs but first my mother and now my wife wouldn't let me have one :-(.

TK,
I have never thought about this as a possible business venture but from what I know offhand I will make the following comments.
1. Obviously you are planning to bring them by flights and not ships.. so you have a big expense right over there.
2. At least in the US when you bring animals from abroad they will most probably be quaratined for anything from a couple of days to weeks. You will bear some expenses around that.
3. Putting a 1-2 week puppy on a trip across half the world can be a traumatic event and can easily kill it. I am not talking about Sixth sense or sadness because I cannot prove them. But trying to transport animals not used to it can put the animal into danger. They tried to move a couple of very big monsters from a shop in Boston(I believe) to a aquarium and the animal died due to "shock". So you stand a big chance of losing part of your investment to what Alaskan crab fisherman say "dead weight".
4. You will also bear all costs for immunization, shots and upkeep of the puppies till they are sold.

Nikhil,
word of advice.. Please don't brag about breaking other people's heads when all they were trying to do was earn a low income salary. Trying to convince them to treat the dogs properly would have been hard, but the right thing. When you break someone's head, threaten then with false molestation charges you cannot say you have the moral high ground because they mistreated the puppies. If you really wanted to have the moral high ground you should have faced the consequences of breaking someone's head.

Hey Souvik_k,

Thanks for your concern for those low paid employees. Let me ask you a very simple question. Doesn’t a normal human being who is an adult understand something called pain? Holding week old puppies by the tail and taking them to the municipal van is cruel. If these guys had done the same thing in Canada I am sure all self respecting Canadians would have called in the cops and have them arrested. And the sorrow seen on the face of the female dog when she lost her puppies is so unforgettable that I did not have my dinner yesterday night after remembering the incident. Couldn’t they have left the week old babies alone?

It is impossible to try and convince these guys to be compassionate to animals. My mom and everyone in the neighborhood have begged and pleaded with them to have mercy but they are so arrogant that they will drag the dogs away by inflicting the maximum possible pain. These guys are drunk all the time so they have absolutely no mercy on animals.

When we broke their heads I was around 11 years old and a minor as per Indian laws. We attacked them at around 1.30 in the afternoon so there were no witnesses around. They went and complained to the cops so they could get some money from my parents. The cops refused to listen to them and refused to register any complaint.

Till this day I am proud of what I did because I respect animal rights. Humans understand what pain is so we shouldn’t be arrogant and inflict that pain on poor defenseless animals. If those guys instead of complaining to the cops had fought with us man to man we would have fought them and won.
