You got to see the purchasing power that 'low pay' gets you in India. You can not just compare in absolute dollar value.

You know you are a desi when ........ You spew forth the virtues of India, but don't want to live there...............You've never had a tanning salon membership
The comparison with our Desis in Canada, was done in a lighter vein. Please don't take it seriously.
However, I cannot understand one thing. On one hand we have people from Gujarat and Rajasthan who had come to Chennai about 100 years ago, have made it so big, their families control the commerce of Tamil Nadu and even South India from their Sowcarpet (I studied in A.M.Jain College an educational institution founded 50 years ago by a kind hearted businessman Mohanmulji Chordia). Now they havemoved to far flung cities and towns inside TN.
On the other, we have majority educated North Indians, who do not know (courtesy KBC) that Kanyakumari, one of the most important landmarks in India is in TN. They also did not know that Telugu constitute the 2nd most spoken language in the country next to Hindi. We have had 3 presidents (Dr. Radhakrishnan, V.V. Giri & Neelam Sanjiva Reddi) and one PM (Narasimha Rao) , not to speak of great people in every walk of life, from Andhra Pradesh (My mother tongue is Tamil only).
This contradiction, is it because the North Indians who are successful in South do not want to share it with their friends/relatives in their home town.
