Fido

I would continue to side Canada even if it was on the wrong because that is the law of Dharma. If i do not like what Canada is doing then i am supposed to renounce my Canadian citizenship and take Indian citizenship to fight from the Indian side.
Not be like the Lebanese on whom Canada spent 85 million $ to evacuate 15,000 people and as soon as the war is over 7,500 people are back in Lebanon.

Keep pouring in your philosphies please but the mood is expected to be light.

now isnt that all together a new topic of discussion.. pages and pages can b written on it..
All those people who went back should be billed for the expense occured to remove them from the war-torn country.
it just goes to show how our tax money is spent..no wonder I have to work so much of overtime...
Also, dont u guys think, Canada needs to seriously take a look at the immigration policy..

"It is the same situation which Arjun faces in Kurushetra when he has to fight his own family . Krishna advises him to do it because it is his dharma to do so." Loser

i think u got it wrong there. Krishna did not tell him to fight his own family because it is one's dharma to fight his family.

He tells him it is his duty to struggle to uphold righteouness, without consideration of personal loss, consequence or reward; the discharge of ones moral duty, he says, supersedes all other pursuits, wheather spritiual and material, in life.

So I guess for me personally that would be the benchmark for giving support "üphold rightousness"

At that time it was Duryodhans Dharma or duty to see that the Kauravas win. So good or bad we have to follow our dharma. It is liek teh soldier in the Army. It is is Dharma to fire his weapon when his commanding offcier shouts "fire". He is not allowed to think who is on the other side of the gun barell, because he joined the Army by his own choice.

Man! I have been a citizen for too long. I had no idea that the oath had fine print on it! Do they actually let you put the clauses in or are they pre-printed?

Back in my day, when you took an oath meant you took an oath. No fine print. No "depends on spin". When I joined the fraternity of Canada, patriotism was articulated and even sung in song. Terms like "I will serve and uphold the laws of Canada" and "O' Canada, we stand on guard for thee" were used. It was definately more than a notion. Did you go through a different ceremony?

Now loyalty is not a notion but a character trait. Either you are loyal and trustworthy or you are not. It does not depend on spin. Let me tell my wife that I am loyal to her as long as her spin is good!! :D I'll end up in the spin cycle of the laundry machine!

No, for me there is no doubt, no option, no spin I am committed to Canada (and my wife, just in case she reads this)

And the point about Dharma by Loser - wow! You are definately not a loser in my eyes. They should have a Dharma ceremony for CD's to understand what it means to be a Canadian citizen!

Umm...would you fight even if you didn't believe in the premise of the war and it was initiated by Canada? i.e. if you clearly knew that Canada was on the wrong side of the ethical equation?

There are loyalties and there is fanaticism. Staying true to a oath while ignoring all reason and rational thought is the textbox definition of the latter. On the same note, what are your thoughts on Americans who opposed the war in Iraq? Are they not loyal to their countries?

And btw, if Duryodhan was following his dharma, why wasn't Krishna on his side? Don't think Krishna tossed a coin to pick sides....
