Amazing reporting and analysis by the BBC............

"He has averaged 93 with the bat since converting to Islam last year and made 223 against England at Lahore last December. "

From http://www.sportinglife.com/cricket/news/story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=cricket/06/07/15/CRICKET_England_Quotes_Nightle.html

Mohammad Yousuf continued his extraordinary form since converting to Islam to spoil England's hold on the first Test at Lord's.

The Pakistan batsman, formerly known as Yousuf Youhana until he switched faiths from Christianity last year, finished unbeaten on 185 as the tourists closed on 409 for seven - a deficit of 119 runs.

In that period Yousuf has averaged 93 with the bat, almost double his previous career return of 48.

Four of his 17 Test centuries have come in his last half dozen appearances, in fact, and England will need to prise him out early to maintain hopes of victory.

"Everything is because of Allah and thanks Allah for this hundred," Yousuf said.

"We can't do anything without him.

"Everything is because I converted and after that my performances have been better.

"When you pray five times a day you are very disciplined and you are most honest; I try to make a good human being.

"I have not changed the way of my game, just the way of my life."

Yousuf's day began at 4.30am with his first prayers and when he walked to the crease five and a half hours later, Pakistan were in need of defiance.

Within minutes he lost overnight partner Mohammad Sami but from a position of 68 for four, the tourists countered in style with captain Inzamam-ul-Haq sharing in a 173-run stand.

England claimed only four wickets in total and were made to toil by Pakistan's big two.

Fast bowler Liam Plunkett said: "Yousuf showed how good he was in Pakistan. He looks the business.

"He steps across his stumps so anything straight and he will put you on the leg-side.

"It wasn't easy, the pitch was quite flat and they played pretty well," added Plunkett.

"They know their own games, they play their own way, they are very experienced and it seems to work for them."

With Andrew Flintoff's absence forcing England to operate a bowler light, the four-man attack were given a serious workout.

"It takes quite a bit out of you because we have only been playing one-day cricket in the last month and so we are not used to (bowling) 20 overs in a day," added Plunkett.

Plunkett separated the celebrated fifth-wicket pair when Inzamam misjudged a delivery and was bowled around his legs.

England may have been in better health but two dropped catches off Plunkett meant they stalled - Marcus Trescothick got his fingertips to an Inzamam slash at slip before lunch and Kamran Akmal - who hit 58 - was put down by Kevin Pietersen at cover before he had scored half his runs.

Nevertheless, Plunkett insists Pietersen's first Test wicket late in the day - that of Akmal - can be built on.

He said: "We still believe in each other 100%, that is the good thing about this team. We are here to get a win.

"Hopefully we can get the wickets early and then hit the ball around the park to give us the chance to knock them over."

Well, if that's what he wants to believe, that's his call. My issue is when someone else claims that on his behalf (the BBC in this instance).

If religion has anything to do with cricket, well...Jesus wins out on this one hands down. :D The one team that has overwhelmingly dominated cricket for so many years boasts mostly christians...

Exactly !
That was the reason I found the news report noteworthy. The original page didn't quote him, nor was it referring to any context. What I have quoted was the only sentence on the entire page that had anything to do with Islam !!!
