Sometimes bank and other institutions require a photo id with an address on it.

My question: How does one get a photo id with an address on it if the person does not know how to drive? Is the person shit out of luck? Remember, some of our parents are old and will not be able to drive. I know we can use the PR card but the issue we ran into is that the PR card does not have an address on it.

Does Ontario gov't issue photo id's?

TIA,

It would depend on for hat purpose it's required. You could use the Health card. Generally it's advised not to use the Health Card as a piece of identification, but if there's no choice, you have to.

You can ask the bank what other alternatives they will accept as proof of residence. Telephone bills, etc., can serve as address proof.

Driving license G1 would also considered as valid photo ID proof. For G1, you only need to pass written test and you do not need to know driving. It would cost $125 or so is another matter (if you do not plan to drive).

Here are three that are possible to obtain, that came up in search.

The LCBO Photo ID could be obtained for $20 plus an affidavit another $20? It is for people between the ages of 19-35.
The Costco membership is betwen $45-55, photo included, Immediate, locations near by could be found with the search engine. (Any validity? Is it any
good?)
'Citi Photo Credit Card'- Really Good. Takes time, 2-3 weeks.

First, A Big Thank You goes out to sudesingh, rajcanada, ftfl for your time & reply to my post.

Right now we are using a combination of the PR Card, the SIN Card, credit card and the passport as a proof of ID. It seems that every place we go to, asks for a drivers license. What they do not understand is this:

- Canada is an immigrant friendly country.
- A lot of people will be come to Canada on a PR based on family sponsorship.
- Some of us will not be able to get a drivers license. EX - My parents who can not read or write english. For them getting a G1 is not even an option.

I wish Canada Gov't would issue ID's just how they do it in the US.

Thanks

The knowledge test for G1 is available in English, French, Greek, Spanish, Italian, Chinese, Portuguese, Polish, Russian, Hindi, Finnish, German, Croatian, Punjabi, Korean, Tamil and Somali at some DriveTest Centres in Ontario. If you need the test in any of these languages, please check with your local Centre.

Atleast in BC, you can get BC card. I don't know about Ontario.
