Hi Friends,
I am also one of the prospective immigrant...likewise the group members, I took the decision of moving to Canada ( 2.5 Years ago) for better quality of life...I have just become the member of this wonderful club....
I would like bring your notice that we are discussing the prospects of moving to Canada and Getting Good / Odd Jobs only in some areas. The weightage of most discussion is being given to IT , Accounting and Engineering ( Civil / Construction) Sectors..whereas I strongly feel that we must also discuss other areas as well. What is the situation in other field(s)....Like Marketing, Sales to Industries /Institutions or Super Market / Channels, what are the prospects in Production / Quality / Light / Heavy Engineering Industries. What is happening in R&D and Design and Development for New Innovative products ...I mean to say the specialists Job...Like Designing Engineers, Law Professionals / Advocates, Educationalists / Professors / Lecturers, Marketing / Sales Professionals, fabrication / Production / R& D Managers People working in Service Industries...Like Couriers, Cargo, Avaiation, telecom, food and Beverages etc.
My request to the group is that we should also share the Job prospects relating to other trades like Travel & Tourism , Hospitality, General Sales & Marketing FMCG / Consumer Durable / Non Durable and Automotive and light / heavy engineering Industries and other generic professions so that many new people would be able to contribute (Actively, as we have been asking that there are more than 2500 members but only a few contribute...) and share their experiences...And my gut feel is that we are somehow giving this message (Which we never intended) that we would want to talk about only on the some subjects.
The reason I am asking this that I have understood very little of the general marketing trends and I really don't know that what could be the best way to succeed in Canada while we are settled backhome and leading a reasonable life. As we all know that the current trend of asking to have Canadian Experience may mean in some way that if we \\\"posess multidimensional\\\" qualities thru which you can start and adapt a new Culture in your life. Are we open enough to take this \\\"Cultural Challange\\\"
Even the immigration policy wants people with multi skills so that the Canadian economy can offer you a job to survive....Further, I have heard from different people , whatever my contacts have told me..say it is very easy to get Labour Jobs and also if you are OK you can even Get a permanent Job within no time....especially in the field of Sales / Marketing.....
After I have gone through in detail, I realy do not know that my decision is right to move to Canada just in the first instance or I need to look for something here backhome.....
.I am a marketing personnel with no Canadian experience (Yet 12 Years of Indian Experience) would want to know your views and information / experiences in my field at least to start with...
Please understand my concern.....
Warm regards
Amit

Looks like you are at a managerial position in Sales/Marketing with some consumer durable or FMCG company.....no may be with Max New York Life (every third professional in India is now with an insurance company)....anyway, just kidding!
Being successful in canada, settled in Canada, getting good jobs in Canada....etc..etc... is all Relative. Have you heard Relativity? If you are Punjabi, which I am sure u r, MAAH DI DAAL, KISI NOO SWAADI, KISI NOO BAADI.....u understand, right?
Canada needs multitaskers, in other words.....people with ""Transferable skills"" means even if you are an egg or doctor or lawyer, u should be capable of doing any kinda job like security guard, hotel waiter, janitor, etc..etc..and if you are a SALESMAN, no worry, u will get something....but again...no guarantee!!!
If you want to come to Canada, my suggetsion to you will be:
* Have your focus clear. Why are you coming to Canada? Better quality of life could be one of the reasons but tell me: DIDN'T YOU LOOK AT THE DOLLAR RATE BEFORE EVEN APPLYING FOR CANADA.....EK KA TEES?? tell me honestly!! paisa kamana hai to phir parwaah mat karna, kuchh bhi kaam kar lena and apna profession...apna profession.....ka gana mat gana.
* forget about your past....kya the, kya ho gaye....kya hone jaa rahe ho.....jitni jaldi apna past bhool jaaoge, utni jaldi adjust kar loge...
Good Luck!!
Happy Paaji,
Sir , Tusi Great ho...I am really moved ny your factual and realistic words Of course the major decision to move to Canada is to make money..which I feel almost every person will agree...(Yes, I agree with you for the conversion factor...)
Jahan tak Tusi kya hai ki Je Paise Kamany Ne tan to Tu san noo "Bamboo Lavaney" pain gey...pur Paaji, Aethey tan assi lava rahe ne...par Authey vee "Bamboo" tan milan gey, Je assi lava laiye... at least we should get the oportunity to start with (that is what my worry is...irrespective of any field....)
I feel what you have said is right that Canadain Desi is the giving us the real picture of what are the things Prospective Immigrants need to be aware off and therefore prepare themslves accordingly....and so they would undergo with the least of "Jolts" which our other colleagues have gone through in settling their lives....
I am convinced that, the moment we leave India, we must forget everything what we possesed here and keep no comparisons ( Especially our Ego's and Position which we held & must come down to ground reality) and start a fresh as we did a couple of year back in India....The idea is to get on to a job in / out of your field whichever comes your way first and should start settling afterwards while putting everything from your side and passing through the initial phase.
Thanks a ton and let's continue with the discussion....

Bakshi saab,
What I gather from the discussions here is that one has to be prepared to start from scratch...rewind 15 years and play again ! Only the lucky ones continue from where they left in India (or wherever they are migrating from!)
Vishal
Exactly.
There is also a discussion going on the forum about the age and immigration. The lesser at age at immigration to canada, the better. There is a friend of mine (Indian) who had 10 guys working as subordinates in Saudi Arabia and now he is doing factory labour job in Canada. He said "if I crib about that I better go back."
