We switched to Sears from G3.
Works out fine except -
1. Calls to cell phone outside North America are charged at different rate and are not included in 800 min. India is 21 c which is expensive than others, which I did not know before and I don't know how much more I ended up spending.
2. Every time we have to call Sears to know how many minutes are left and that too as per their timings.
3. Sears does not have a specific date, they just say that approximately until three days prior to your bill date they count the minutes.
4. Calls can only be made from your home phone so none frm your office / outside.
I am not too satisified, but lets see how many days this can work for us.

Yesterday someone from 'Union Telecom' called me from India offering 3.9 cents / minute (mobile as well) plus 1 free month of calls to India . He wanted my credit card number and an refundable deposit of CAD 40/-
Has anyone subscribed to such / similar service and how safe is it to share our credit card numbers on telephone ?

I heard about this comp frm my friend and checked their website
http://www.uniontelecomusa.com/faq.php
there is a trap there..connection fees 3.9 cents+3.9 reg charge= 7.8 cents per minute
plus their pulse rate is every third minute. so if you talk for one min. you will end up payin charge for 3 mins.
for other wid out connection fees they charge 6.9..
but i find this company littlebit fishy..

If you want to do something for our country, just dont support corruption or be part of it
Same here the guy immediately turned on to Hindi and prompted me to ask him from where he was calling - and he replied India .... and then he wanted my credit card number and was quite eager ~ I told him to call me next week .
PLEASE be very precautious in sharing personal information on phone like your date of birth , address etc ... Its PERSONAL until you are convinced that the caller is genuine . New desi imigrants do not generally distinguish b/w personal and public information.
And as mentioned elsewhere on this website also - DO NOT accept or say YES to any offers on phone until you are convinced - they record conversation as proof of acceptance .

I use searsconnect and very happy with it. Previously I was using Comwave but with the comwave they offer different rates to different people and you need to tell them about it ,but still it was expensive.
I have 3 way calling so I use it to talk to family in USA and India at the same time, so searsconnect is great. You need Sears card to join. Their customer service is also great.
Here from their faq
========================
The activation fee is $39.50, and there is a connection charge of $0.39, and the cost is rounded to the minute for the first three minutes.
========================
So its a connection fee of 39 cents per call and as per experience with calling cards, they almost always charge/deduct this connection fee once the call is dialled irrespective of whether the call completed or not. So its a complete rip off
