Happy Haloween to all.
Since our work place does not have a Haloween policy, I had to come to work in my formal wear.
However, I am eager to go trick or treating with an Infant (14 months old) placed in my care.
I hope to bring the treats and treat them to my friends at the office.
Another incident which comes to my mind is :
Last Haloween this is what happened to an IT office in which one of my family members works, which had a Haloween policy. workers (120 of them in all) were asked to come in an Haloween out fit and the top 3 would be rewarded. It turned out that only 3 of them came in Haloween outfits and thus all the three won prices. It must be noted that out of 120 people 95 people were non desi's.
Once again, Happy Trick or Treating.

Sidenote : Incidently, The infants baby sitter (a Canadian) is having her own Haloween party bash at her house during baby sitting and we dressed the infant as a Rabbit/Bunny. The baby sitter was dressed as a Wicked Witch. She (the baby sitter) does not charge extra for the Haloween party bash.

Interesting fact FYI:

Usually when someone says they have an infant placed in their care, they are either:

a) a foster parent

b) A babysitter/daycare provider/child minder.

Been doing it for the past 4 yrs come rain/snow or heavy winds. I dont know if its the kids or the parents who enjoy it more. We hit most of the busy streets in our neighborhood over a period of 3 hrs.

Luckily tomorrow is a holiday(ped day) for my kids and I am home with them to nurse the inevitable tummy aches and help with the 'candy sorting'.

Then comes figuring out a way to hide and get rid of some of the candy, lest they become meal substitutes.

Happy Halloween.!

CD's,
This year 2006 was my first experience in Trick or Treating.
What i did was to drive my car in the upper class neighbourhood near my house (royal york road between Bloor and Dundas) and see where there was much crowd. Once i found a significant crowd, stop my car and then go trick or treating. I went to around 20 houses in 1 hour and got aound 1/2 kg. of very good quality chocolate, jelly, candy, bubble gum, chips, cookies etc...
It was a very nice experience. I am distributing the sweets among staff of our office and friends.
My observations (limited to mine only) are :
1. Canadian treat Haloween as a festival equal to Deepavali or Christmas. They have tons of goodies for Free giveout.
2. Small children 2-10 years really do trick or treat in the true spirit of Haloween. They are also dressed up very nicely.
3. There are children above 10 years (both male and female) who just do not dress up for haloween but just collect sweets for their collection. I saw many kids having bags weighing atleast 5-10 kgs.
4. People are generally very friendly. They smile and give treats. Just in one house i was frowned upon and an bad comment was passed on me. This was done by a 12-15 year old girl.
5. Some people were also clearly upset by the number of kids coming the second time , mingling with a new crowd.
6. In many houses, it was the children of the house giving the treats. Many of those children were dressed up in good costumes. In house where there were no kids, parents gave the treats. When parents gave the treats 95 % were not dressed for Haloween.
7. In my experience, among 20 houses, this was the distribution :
a. 10% gave treats in handful (4-5 chocolates)
b. 20% gave 3 or 4
c. 40 % gave 2
d. 20% gave 1

Long live the Canadian Spirit of Haloween. Let it multiply in the days to come.
