Poor taste ? Certainly not. This may not apply to ALL North/South Indians but goes OK with general perception.
And why can't we Indians laugh at ourselves ?
I am a Westerner by origin. Could someone give a good account of West Vs. the East? I for one will surely enjoy it.

It seems to be quite an old post... and it somewhat led to an uproar and CDs may not like to bring it table again!!!
However , Let me just share something that may seem interesting to some and please no offence to anyone.
I am a North Indian married to a North indian . I have a very good friend who is a South Indian who surprisingly likes North Indian style and we like South Indian food n many other things including Flowers on Head ( veni).
I teach her Punjabi dishes and have learnt so many new South indian ones ( no need for lessons on Idli Wadas ...I am an expert already...hmmm may be the Punjabi style but who cares...we love it)
Now the point is that we have learnt best of both sides from each other and so Life is even more fun now.
So how about not fighting about taste and trying to get best of all.
"Baki diyan gallan chaddo dil saaf hona chaheeda"...would love to translate if asked to.
