I'm in IT too...
Do you mind touching why would you leave Singapore. I could understand people leave India then the middle east. I am under impression Singapore is probably the best place (especially for South Indians) as it was the place I wanted to settle, I didn't put enough effort on that to be honest.

Thanks tamilkuravan, I am in IT. But I guess everyone has to struggle while relocating. It should be ok if the person finds himself in comfortable position after 2-3 years of struggle.

I came across this thread. I was wondering how is your view now after 4-5 years, because I am planning to do the same i.e. to migrate to Canada from Singapore.

Hi

Apologies for the delay in responding, its been a while since I visited CD. Here is my experience in moving from SG to CA.

1) I moved to Canada with a job in hand and hence no problems there.
2) I landed in winter and that did not help my transition that much. It was so gloomy and depressing and the first year was miserable mainly because of the income tax in this country. Nearly 35% goes in income tax and sales tax is 13%. IN SG I used to pay only 8-10% income tax and 3% GST. So this was a big downer. I constantly asked myself if I made the right decision.
3) Then spring came and things started looking a lil better. I got another job with a better salary. I bought a Car after 1 yr and bought a house after 2 yrs. Mine and my wife's work life balance is very good. People don’t kill themselves buy working long hours like in SG and the work pressure here in Canada is no where close to what is in SG.
4) I also made some good friends and they brought in some good times as well. I am big on friends and I think my social circle is much better in CA compared to SG.
5) With some of these good things in CA I was able to compromise on the tax thing and now I don’t feel the tax pinch that much.

At the end of the day, both SG & CA are good countries in its own ways and they both offer different things . You need to ask your self what the 3 most important things in life for you. If you are really a career driven person who wants to become a CEO then Canada is not the country for you. If you want a good work life balance and opportunities for your kids education then CA may be the country for you. So list your priorities out and decide. What ever you choose to do, good luck with it.

Thanks rsk12, the main inspiration for us is to consider kids future.

JRF, IMO Singapore is a good country for short term stay.

Hi

I am a new Canadian PR currently in Singapore for the past 2 years, trying to decide when to go back to Canada and if it is worth the risk. Reading the comments here, the opinion seems divided on the wisdom of leaving Singapore for Canada.

I am in IT with a good job here but my consideration for moving to Canada was for my child. But with the financial crisis everywhere and Asia becoming the center of all the activity, it does seem very foolish to leave all that. In a total confusion as to what to do. As rsk12 pointed out, I want want a good work life balance and opportunities for my kids education, I suppose I should be looking at Canada more keenly now.

Hope i can make the right decision soon. It was good to read this thread.
