Hi!

I just got Canadian passport and now i want to apply for the dual citizenship, can anybody tell me how much time it takes after applying for dual? On the web-site it says 15 days, but people says it takes a month or so? Beacause i am planning to visit India in coming Feb. so if it's taking long time i must take visa for now? What you guys say?

India does not recognize dual citizenship. Both PIO and OCI do not grant citizenship rights.

You can apply for visa for India.

Get OCI. Stay 1 year in India. You can be full citizen of India.

But that would require him renounce his foreign citizenship.

I checked Govt of India websites, it does not say that you have to renounce your Canadian citizenship.

Please correct me if I am wrong or have incomplete knowledge...

You need to hold the OCI card for 5 years and live 1 out of 5 years to apply for Indian citizenship.

Yes, you have to renounce your Canadian citizenship. India does not recognize dual citizenship. Please refer to the forms at mha.nic.in (Foreigners Division, Indian Citizenship, Forms, Form IIIC)

Guys, this has been discussed a million times. India DOES NOT have anything called dual citizenship. You can either be a citizen of India or Canada/etc.

The cgi toronto website provides all the info.
