Hello,
I just got my Canadian PR and will be flying to India on Jan 2nd. I have purchased lots of electronics such as MP3 player, digital camera, Hair grooming kit etc for family. As I make my plans my friends warned me to keep some dollars aside to bribe Indian Customs.
The link here: http://www.immihelp.com/nri/india/travel/ gives a fair idea of the Customs Duty and the embarkation form shows I can carry RS 12000 worth of goods without paying duty.
How do I carry my goods which are clearly above Rs 12000 to India without paying duty ? Please advise …
Thanks
parimal,
I don't know the illegal ways to take your stuff into India nor have any experience in bribing Customs. I can tell you the legal way...declare your stuff and most likely if the stuff is not of a very high value, the customs will let you go.
By the way, the value of goods allowed without paying duty is $25,000 not 12K. I have just returned from India and the form has 25K printed on it.
Here is a link I just discovered: http://www.thokalath.com/baggage/indian_custom_tariff.php

Secondly, don't use Canadiandesi for ideas on breaking the law. I'm locking this thread.
