If from the GTA, then driving is probably the best option.
As for places to see, it depends on how much time you have.
If it's 2 - 3 days, it's mostly the Parliament Hill and the museums.
If you have longer, then you can venture out.
Places to stay - if you are mostly going to focus on the Parliament, the museums and nearby attractions, then any hotel in downtown should do.
