Hi guys ,
My self, my wife and daughter are landing on 14th april at toronto a/p, and returning in 7 days after processing PR,
Could any one tell us,
How much USD / CAD we need to show to emigration officer (we are staying only for 7 days)?
Can I (principal applicant) show FCNR deposit receipts with ICICI bank in India? or is it mandatory to carry draft ?
Thanks in Advance for your replies,
Cheers
Sunil

Yes,You need to have the money with you [in $]equal to the amount you showed in the papers while processing your papers for immigration.
It is always safer to carry tht amount as a draft.
Some you can carry in cash to spend there.
If you are not staying there for long you can bring that draft back with you.No need to open bank acct .We did the same.
Last month upon landing --we were asked at the airport about the amount we have and officer wrote it on the landing papers.
What I know is -it is mandatary to have tht money even if you are staying for only for a day.
[They usually just ask how much do u have?not ask to show it.
But u never know ----]
We were told by our consultant that only cash/draft/travellers cheques are acceptable by officer at airport ,not any other document/certificate/reciept etc.

As per CIC website http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/funds.asp
\"The amount of money you need to support your family is determined by the size of your family. These amounts are updated every year.
Number of
Family Members Funds Required
(in Canadian dollars)
1 $10,168
2 $12,659
3 $15,563
4 $18,895
5 $21,431
6 $24,170
7 or more $26,910 \"
You need not bring amounts more than shown above. If you have access to your bank account to draw money from Canada through debit card / credit card , you need not bring above amounts also. You can easily convince immigration officers for such a short stay by showing your bank account balance, printed just before arriving in Canada.

Hi Sunil,
We landed in Toronto recently. It is enough if you show you bank statements in the US bank (I am assuming you are coming from US).
I am sure you know this, just don't tell them that you are going to go back in a week etc, they normally don't encourage that. If they insist tell them , you'll first stay with your friend and later will look for an accommodation here.
Hope this helped.
Cheers...
But how can one go back without PR card which takes couple of weeks to receive in Canada ?
And you also need PR to come back to Canada...
