If you are in the Oil and Gas industry you should move over to Edmonton for 65,000 $ then find a different job for more. To live in Alberta 100,000 $ is a required income as houses are expensive .
Also i would advice a good car with 4 wheel drive for both you and your wife in the winters. If possible take driving lessons from AMA.
The desi area is Millwoods in Edmonton and is one of the crime prone areas. It is the South East part of Edmonton. A good area to live in is the South West part.

You know you are a desi when ........ You spew forth the virtues of India, but don't want to live there...............You've never had a tanning salon membership

But everyone's situation and needs are different.
Just in terms of Salary, Canada is no way good as compared to Dubai.

You can now buy Property in Dubai and sell it when you leave the place.
And the Return on Real Estate is much more higher than anywhere in Canada.
I live in Edmonton since 2004, write to me at vdabral (at) gmail (dot) com
65K is enough to maintain fairly good living style
Rents are ~1200 for 2BHK APT
