Nothing wrong with your post. It is a fair question. And by the way different people have different tolerance level for others' behavior.
I for one have had to deal with my fair share of nasty managers. I never believed in legal action and crap like that for such things. Especially in a private company they can just as well make it your own fault and really, how many of us have the bandwidth for legal action?
So I dealt with it. Sometimes I had to speak back and have my say albeit in a professional manner although my manager was not being a pro. In addition, I worked hard and let my work speak for itself. Personally for me this has worked out whereby the manager has extreme faith in my judgement now...
Some managers are scum bags no matter what. You cannot build a rapport no matter what...so not much you can do to turn it around.
Bottomline, you can converse frequently, discuss ideas, deliver effectively and eventually you two can meet half way.

Hi Friends;
Allow me to chip in again with some more on the topic. I guess more is about 'Intra-Personal' skills here; comes our way at job places, at home, everywhere in social life. In my 4.5 years in Canada (including 2 years on EI), I had about six (low paying) jobs; and now seventh outside Canada with high salary and position. I had supervisors with diffrent tastes at all those six 'jobs'. But, I understand, I made each one feel that I am respecting his/ her feelings. The same soft skill is working very fine at my present managerial job as well. Again, from the six ex-supervisors, 2-3 are still in my contacts and friends. They says, had to do all that for getting the work done. They had to say all those things as someone was watching 'em as well.
So, I will say, take it easy (unless it is really too serious). After some time, you will remember this phase with changed prespective.
