Let me tell you one thing, we have stayed in UAE for almost a decade. YOu will not get work visa if there are no job opportunities here. have you heard of UAE who sanctioned skilled worked visa and the person enters country and is unemployed for one year. No. you will not hear such things in UAE.

In canada, this is our first experience of unemployment after working for more than 20 years in India and UAE on middle level management. This is the price we pay for dreaming of canada and USA. (A very small price to pay).

I guess this is comparing apples to oranges. You are comparing UAE work visa with Canada PR. I believe even Canada has temporary work visas, which are offered ONLY if you have a job. Same case with US and Australia. I know you are frustrated, but statements like these do not give a fair view. Does UAE allow immigrants to become citizens?

My friend UAE may not offer citizenship but people from US and canada are running to UAE for work because the income is tax free. If you don't have proper job or you are working on labour job lifting 25-50 lbs for 8 hours, that too at the age of 50+ which is pathetic even to get citizenship. I will never like my father doing this for me. There is limit to everything. In UAE also, there are classes like skilled, white collar and labour class. They don't expect an engineer or accountant to do labour job. Here majority of the people are expected to lift 25-50 lbs which is considered as normal by canadian Govt. correct me if am wrong.

Gopal Pai,
All these talks are to motive people to stay in Canada.
First all will ask you to be positive.
Secondly they will talk of caste reservation, Corruption, Pollution in India.
Next they will talk of the good lives that our children will have
Then they will say how good is this country (that lets in immigrants) etc.. etc...
It all boils down to if you get a good paying job and if the money that you earn can be used to get a life better than what it was in the Gulf / India.
when that is not got or got even after a resonable time, nothing that this country gives you can be of any / much use.
In this country, you have to fight to get your rights. If you are thinking that it will be done by the country (as it is fully computersied) then you are wrong.
Some true examples may irritate some members and hence I am not giving it.
all the best and hope that you / your family members get some nice professional jobs without going through the weight lifting phase of Canada.

Peace by TK

A Yank and a Canuk may run to UAE, just for the Gas. (Petrol) BUT has to pay taxes on all of the WORLD Income does not matter where he goes and hides. Otherwise they will hunt him and crucify him, later.

But the Canadian has a choice to sever the relationship with Canada and STILL hang on to his Citizen ship and the PASSPORT and move about freely.

BUT a Yank has to SHED his Citizenship denouncing it to get off the tax rolls. Even then they might come and get him.

Currently, I can get and become a Permanent Resident, of UAE, just by buying a beach front home in one of the FRONDS and stay there for 99 Years!!

Don't shoot the bull here. Rules are changing so beware!!

People will have to learn to find and use the available means such as "CIIP" and do all of the spade work prior to landing. AND as always, look for the shithouse and familiarize yourself and get to know where it is first, rather than get caught with your pants down!!.......

Wake up all of you Immigrants, this website may be a good one. But how good it is depends upon the feed back that you will get from the guys that post here. So as always look for the people and not the posts.

Have a Great and Long "WeekEnd".

Freddie.

I will tell you what --- if people criticize a place and still continue living the bottom line is --- either they have vested interests in staying here or don't have better options ........... If they had / have , they would move .....

Same goes for you (pardon the bluntness) - You have experienced UAE and the Damocles Sword of contract being/ not being renewed ... then what .... You have experienced Canada .... it is you who will decide whats better for you -- either stay here , do survival jobs attain citizenship and then move off OR move off now .... its your choice .

Or go to Saskatchewan as MGupta has done -- he also beckons others .

Learn from TK -- despite criticizing and pointing out the pit falls from the Canadian system he continues to stay here and does not wish to move out of Ontario ... knowing that he might get a job in other province .... The Govt supports him --- he is not on job and still getting EI payments , doing a course in SAP and can potentially work a good 8 hours on self development ... at the Govt's expense ......

Can you tell me of another country who does this ?? imagine what would have happened had TK lost his job in the US or the UAE ??

I repeat what I ve said earlier --- the support system is in place .... Compare apples to apples ------- why did you not come to Canada on a work permit ?? You came to the UAE on that and you go to the US on that ?

Every one should be aware (esp with Canadian Desi ) that no place in the world is a bed of roses and why should it be ??? You have to work your way out .....

Lastly there s something known as 'sunk cost' in accounting ... Disregard what you have already spent -- but try and save what you ve got .....You have hit Canada in not so good times -- its up to you to decide what to do next --- the options are ...

a. Check out what support the Govt can provide you ... welfare and all .
b. Leave for India / ME and return after 2 years when times have changed and there s a more propensity to get work .
c. One partner should upgrade and the other do survival jobs ... not necessarily labor but security , cashier , front desk etc .....

Criticizing would not help ...

Yes you are WRONG ... How many jobs in the UAE are paying good salaries considering the high rents these days .... Look around and let us know how many people you find "running " from Canada / US ?

Fido,

You said it all so clearly. I don't think tt can't be done any better.

I think it is relatively easy to get a job in middle east compared to NA. Here the standards and expectations are more making it difficult. And Gopalpai, don't get worried too much. Since Mr. Pai is already working towards his electrican certification, I am sure you will be laughing next year.

I am also an Electrical engineer, worked as a maintenance engineer, manager etc for the past 15 years. I can say I am relatively familiar with the manufacturing and maintenance work. If you prefer I can refine your resume which may be useful.
