if someone is issued a single entry visit visa for canada, how long is he allowed to stay in the country? the visa is valid for 6 months but 2 months are already elapsed, can he stay for 6 months or 4 from the date of arrival?

Up to 6 months from the date of arrival. The actual duration may be different if the officer at the port of entry stamps an expiration date.
