Hello friends,

I know this has been asked many times on this forum but I sincerely need to have advice from others to decide.

I am landed immigrant since 2007 and have worked in Canada for about 1.5 years. I have a big family including child born here and we are overall managing well.

Before coming here to Canada I used to work in export company and earnings were nominal when I applied for Canada immigration. However it took 5 years for the visa and in meantime I had started my own business which flourished. By the time visa arrived, I owned various properties and had everything life can offer and money could buy. My standard of living was very high and I was highly respected in upper circles of society.

But when visa came we thought to see as Canada was a craze for us and we waited 5 years. So we came in 2007 and started working pretty soon after landing. Now after almost 2 years of working and stay we are thinking whether we should just extend our PR and go back to our lives in India or wait full 3 years and take citizenship or simply go back and never come or go back now and come again later. We have in the last 3 years gone back 3 times and come back to maintain residency requirements. But thats expensive and earnings in Canada are difficult to save.

So please advice what we should do.We can also sell a property there and live easy life here but are not sure about buying and living at one place forever in Canada.

Appreciate serious suggestions from all Desis.

There is no scale to measure the heights of success. Nor has one measured the happiness by degrees. But there have been dis-illusion-ments in everyone's life and at times you do weigh things and find that life might have taken a different turn if you had chosen the correct fork in the road. And if I may add, you would not know, if success is knocking on your own fore head, leave alone at your door.

So, what is the choice. For the current you are the only one who can decide, what it is that you should do. First thing is to decide upon Canadian Citizenship. It might be in your favour or it might become an hindrance, depending upon the holdings that you might have there in India. Some have farm lands to show or resources to buy the same. Having a Canadian Citizenship at that time does not help much.

On the contrary, if it is the funds that you thing will make you happier, then, sell the property there and live the life of the Riley's right here and keep on visiting India as and when you feel like it. Since you have the business acumen, see how you can leverage the money available and make your life happier with sharp investments. That comes only if some one has a good footing and know the fundamentals of investing. So, dwell upon it for the time being.

When you are chasing the dreams, it takes you every where. So, you do have to shift your residences. If that is the case, then keep on moving till you find your niche and then settle down, be it back home or it is in this land.

The decision my friend, is yours to make. Get your family together and sit down and have a "POW WOW". Then make a sane decision based upon the out come. Each situation is unique in its own way and there are no easy solutions to it. You do have an year or more to decide upon it. The time is on your side. So sit down and laugh. Who knows it might cure your problems... or buy a lottery ticket, it might make your dreams come true.... You are at the right place here at the right time.

Freddie.

Dear Tullyjs,

Freddie has given excellent comments, and please be aware many CDs have similar dilemma, yet each one finds his reason or to either stay here or go back.

I believe life is all about choices, the more options or choices you have the better you are however, some people may find it confusing. If you have a choice to live in Canada by means of citizenship then you could be better off is one view.

One thing happens when we get lost facing such challenges in life, is that we loose our connection with inner-self. Nature gives us all answers we need to listen to our gut feeling. I had similar situation few years ago and someone said to me 'listen to your gut feel' I found it ridicoluos but later I got the answer and I followed my gut feel - no regrets at all. This opens the way to happiness and contentment. This is backed by evidence from research conducted by someone who came up with Luck Factor.

So analyse all inputs but wait for your gut feeling or inner voice then things will fall in place no matter you choose option A or B. Actually, life is so small it does not matter which option you pursue but key is to be in sync with your conscious and be happy.

My response maybe bit different but I have seen it work for many people wish you good luck - follow your destiny with a smiling heart..........

Om Shanti !

oil and gas is good money in Alberta but I have heard that the place is good for bachelors and the homes and basics are 3 times costly than normal. I think until u r earning way abv normal u shoudl find out cost of living as conditions are prettyharsh and cold up there.
