pontiac is garbage, quebec made
go with altima
This is the last or the second last model year for the sunfire and GM had sorted out all reliability issues with the car.
I would go with the Sunfire.
If it was 03 Sunfire/03 Altima then i would recommend the Altima, but in this case go with the sunfire.
The sunfire only suffers from 2 problems.
1) Coolant leaking from head gasket: This usually happens after the car goes more than 200K or 10 year and will cost 600-800$ to fix.
2) Brakes: The brakes wear out fast: For that if you find a reliable indy shop you should be ok.
Other than that the car is very reliable.
At that age the Altima will start giving a lot or problems (starting with the different belts)..the timing belt is supposed to be done at 100K and will be 600$ minimum..
Sunfire would be my choice

Fido.
I checked out the Sunfire . Though at 45K only , I did not like the feel of the car and the interiors .
The Altima does not make sense as the re sale after a couple of years would be scrap ... Plus the fuel consumption is also higher and then there s scope for repairs ...
Have decided to move on to a 2003 - 04 Corolla or a 2008 Hyundai Accent 4 dr ........ Starting another thread on that ... since it might help prospective readers who are looking for similar comparison .. Thanks Folks .
