Why don't you apply with the passport you have? It still has about 8 months validity on it. OCI will take around 2 months.
For passport renewal, check Passport Canada's website. You have to state a reason why you are renewing early though if renewing earlier than 12 months before expiry, which is not your case.

Thaks for advice, but,
If I get my OCI status with the existing passport, the problem is when I get my new passport, I will again have to deal with Indian Consulate.

The Canadian passport is issued for five years. If you plan to get an OCI, you will have to deal with them time and again anyway, unless you can use the same stamping forever along with the renewed passport.
Whats the big deal?
