We will be traveling to India on April 27, 2013. Spouse has citizenship ceremony on March 20. I will apply for Canadian passport on the same day. It requires 10 days to get the Canadian passport. Hence we will be getting passport around April 4, 2013.
Then I need to apply for surrender of Indian passport at BLS International Services Inc. and they require minimum 2 weeks to issue surrender certificate, which I need for applying Indian visa. Then I will apply for Indian visa around April 18, 2013 and processing time for issuing of visa is 1/w days.
I am left with two options.
Option # 1: follow normal application route for each event. I am highly skeptical on the processing time for surrender certificate and visa.
Option#2: apply for Canadian passport on urgent basis which requires additional $70.
Option#3: Don’t go for citizen ceremony. This option has too many cons.
Thoughts appreciated.
Many Thanks
Use expedited version of Option 1.
Surrender your Indian passport at Indian consulate office (it will save processing time & Visa issuance will be faster)
