Dear CD's,
Requesting for reliable weighing of air travel luggage as the airports are now very picky about excess luggage.
I have packed all my suitcases and I have also bought a human weighing machine from Walmart. However on putting the bulky suitcase , the suitcase weight varies from 40 lbs (18kg) to 50 lbs (23kg). I now really donot know which is the actual weight. In the past when I have filled 50 lbs (23 kg) in the suitcase, it used to show 27 kg at the airport and I was forced to either pay up or open the suitcase and loose some luggage.
How do Cd's manage to accurately load up their suitcases?
Thanks for all answers in advance.

I am a Gents and not a Ladies.
In my case, I had total of 3 suitcases, one huge one. I was told at the airport to transfer some stuff as the bigger one was weighing much more. If u have air miles, they may let extra weight.
(since I had free air miles for the airline, they gave me extra baggage without any cost)
btw, r u moving to ME?

I have had the same problem when I went for a vacation to India in Dec....its really frustrating to take your stuff and transfer in full view. I had weighed my stuff on a conventional scale and it was all OK, but the airport scale gave a real weird reading (1-2 kg off all the time).
Someone told me to get the "Heys Xscale" which is available on shopping channel....its accurate and designed for luggage only..i am thinking it could be a good option...
Buy a travel scale, which you can get at Factory Direct for about $8.00. It is one of those scales which you hold in your hand and it has a hook at the end where you attach your luggage and then raise it.
I have found it to be accurate and left one in India so I can use it when I am there.
It always helps to pack 1 or 2 less pounds than 50 lbs so that you have some margin of error.
This is also known as a meat scale if I am right ... I also find this to be consistent .... Though at Delhi Airport they allowed 1-2 kgs extra per baggage , but to be on the safer side one tip can be followed .....
Balance all the luggage equally to 23 kgs ..... Then add some snacks / items which can be left easily on the top of each luggage ... the idea being if you have to off load some weight , you have the to-be-offloaded article on the top ....
Do not keep this scale in hand baggage as having a hook the Authorities will retain it .
Another advise is to check in early as the crew would allow more excess baggage earlier on the boarding than later .
