We are thinking of flying to Vancouver and drive back to Calgary in a rental vehicle, please share your experience/ recommendation for economical car rental companies.

All you need is a one-way rental i.e. drop off location different than rental location.
Most of the common rental agencies allow this, such as Hertz, Enterprise, National, Avis, etc.
Shop around for prices.
