(has trains running until midnight) I would not be able to assist with the schools part as I have no kids. You might want to contact AJAXDESI from CD he is a very helpful person.

cheers

You are considering far east, did you give a consideration to Burlington and surrounding area more on west side? Even Milton is ok, houses are still cheaper compared to Mississauga, okville even compared to Burlington.

Thanks Prince,

We are seriously looking into Whitby and can only decide after visting it.

Thanks again...............Jona

Based on a friend who stays @ Whitby and having visited him once , these are my input which may be skewed ..

a. Majorly whites area .... This has its own advantages / dis advantages .
b. Cheaper real estate as compared to the GTA .
c. Commute to Union .. approx 1 hr plus through GO ... can take 2-3 hrs on public transit if you need to reach Mississauga .
d. These folks do not frequent Toronto much - as it happens a majority of your life revolves in the area you stay in .
e. No major Indian restaurants ... or so I believe ...

I think Ajax / Pickering are closer ... any reason why they are not considered ?

Thanks Fido,

The schools in pickering and Ajax are good but the homes near the good schools are expensive. In Whitby the good schools with 8.00 rating (Fraser report) can be found in reasonable range. My husband will travel a lot (in and out Canada), he's from Mining industry and many of our expat friends have moved to Whitby. We don't want to invest too much in a home in Canada because this relocation is to just get the Canadian passport (for 2-3 yrs). All our friends from Caribbean and South America are doing this for kids. Once with the passport, we are not sure where our next move will be, China, Russia, again South America....who knows. I have got used to this kind of packing-moving life, may be we never leave Canada....all this is so unknown.

The other reasons for not buying a expensive home is we want to enjoy our home and not be a slave of mortgage and the vicious cycle, my hubby is 40 and I can't imagine ourselves paying mortgage till 65-70 yrs of his age!!

Thanks again........................Jona

Hi Jonav,

You have done your research well. I agree with you an all points.

To sum it up.

1) If you are looking for very good public schooling, go with Whitby. But, houses are pricey.

2) If you are looking for inexpensive houses, go with Ajax. The schools are decent enough.

Good luck,

Sri.
