Does the PIO card have to be replaced after the passport is renewed?

My son had his passport recently renewed. His passport number has therefore changed.
Does he have to replace his PIO card as well?
Has anybody else faced this situation....

You must get the new passport information endorsed in the PIO card. My daughter's passport is coming up for renewal in a few months, so I will have to go through this drill too.
