Should renewed CDN passport have PIO endorsed?

Hi CDs,

After a day long wait at consulate today I applied for PIO for my second son. I also learnt (by accident) that renewed Canadian Passports should be taken to Consulate for updating the new passport # on the PIO Card. Is this madatory? I thought only OCI stickers need to be endorsed on the passport after renewals. Did any of the CDs updated their PIO`s? If so what supporting documents should I take for this purpose.
