The term being coined now a days for same business function is HCM - Human Capital Management. Earlier the HR was considered sidelined or support function but with time in recent decade it is realised human resources having direct relationship with company's financial health, thus human capital management is now a mainstream and on focus area.
The human capital management deals in managing the talent, knowledge, skills & competence and other personal attributes of labor. Its not merely keeping track of work and absence times, leaves, recruiting - terminating, dealing with unions and distributing the pay. Its all about growth of human capital in an organisation by harvesting skills , linking compensation to performance, advance learning management , talent management through maintaining active balance between position and talent pool, proper succession planning etc.
MBO , Learning Solutions, Compensation & Benefits, organisation management , talent management etc. are the terms strongly inter-weaved along with HCM.
HCM or earstwhile HRM can be, rather is needed to be, performed by line managers & supervisors as well as the dedicated HCM functional managers who device policies and carry our common functions.
