As per the rules,no employees of gas stations are suppose to run after these pettyu thieves making gas theft..they just have to watch, take down the licence plate number and report to the authorities,, call the boss and rest would be taken care of...no need for such impulsive action..

I guess you missed the dozens of articles where he told his family/friends prior to his death that his pay was being docked when this happened. For someone earning close to minimum wage, even if 50% pay is docked on a $112 gas tank, that is almost a whole night's work. I don't know anyone who would like to work the whole night without getting paid, especially when it gets in the way of supporting their family.

"The rules" without enforcement are meaningless. I am keen to see what the labour ministry investigation reveals.

Sounds like you know the family. Are they happy with the support from Shell? I read an article in the Toronto Sun that Shell has not done much and that is disturbing given their capacity to help, this is a multibillion dollar corporation we're talking about here.

Feel free to PM me if you're not comfortable discussing this on the forum.

The right title of the thread..heart breaking !

As all have mentioned here and realised, what happened is really sad. As all, I too feel really bad and was in tears when I saw the big pic of mom and son in toronto star.

I feel v bad frm within that our community / country people (and yes may be other countries too, but I can not relate to them as much as I can with indians),

that our community / country people have to struggle so much. 6 years and no job -profession related.

I know so many middle aged ladies (daughter in laws as we call) that are working in factory....they work so hard, assembly line etc, have to stand all day, dont know what kind of atmosphere inside, breathing etc. In india, they get such a respectful life ...

but more heart breaking was for me to know someone say: " It is a good job, I started with min wages (say $ 8) , its been 10-12 years, I m still there and get $ 12. We get 3 % raise which is 0.25 c raise per year"

I was like whhhattt ????

Then they come home and do all house chores, cooking, kids and tonnes of other...

Indeed sad...and all this inspite of all resources available, free eng classes, free computer classes, they make your resume, do job search workshops, give tuition (ok hard ot get but still can) ...whats missing then ?

Moderators : do you think it wud be a good idea if couple of people would visit the family as representatives of canadian desi and assess their needs that we could pitch in and provide. I know abt the fund but other than that...there could be services they need / guidance that someone frm us could provide...We could guide them to proper resources...even if its something like counselling for the kid kind of service, not sure if they will be aware..I know frm sources that the lady does not know eng well...

Thanks everybody for confirming that the a/c is indeed the correct a/c. I went to CIBC branch near my home yesterday at around 6 pm but they close at 5 pm!!! and are open late until 7 pm only on Thu/Fri. I bank with TD which seems to be open all the time, so never realized CIBC could be closing so early. Anyways, I'll go again on Thursday and deposit the money. I leave work around 5:30.

Thanks.
