I dont think there is any format or form for this.
The authorities in my case (I had Oman licence) just asked me to get
this validated from the embassy (of Oman). I sent it to the embassy
in Washington (Ottawa Oman consular office is not authorised to do
this). All the embassy in washington did was just made another letter
on (on Embassy Letter Head)which they just put the data, just signed & sealed and sent back to me. This I took to DriveTest and they accepted it.

By the way I failed my first test and passed only on the second attempt.

Best of luck to you

Tom

Tom,

I am still in India and migrating in the next two months. I have both an Indian as well as an Omani driving licence. Is there any preferencial treatment given to any licence by the Canadian authorities? If Omani licence then do you know if I can get the licence authenticated from their Mumbai embassy?

Regards
Reymus

Hi,

My understanding is that wheather INDIAN or ANY OTHER COUNTRY's,
the Canadian authorities want the licence to be authenticated/certified
by the concerned authority in CANADA. ie. the corresponding embassy
in CANADA.

In the case of attestation by the Indian Embassy of Canada, the following
is what the Consulate-General of India, Toronto office says:

Driving Licence Authentications: All applicants may please note that Driving Licences would be authenticated only after the receipt of confirmation from the licence issuing authority in India. This could take several months. Only those who are ready to wait may apply. They will be informed as soon as confirmation is received. Queries regarding status will only be entertained by email at

So proceeding with the authentication of the OMANI licence is a better option, but I doubt if they will accept the authentication from INDIA. No harm in trying though.

Best of luck

Tom

I am just curious, as I read many times here that authentication of indian license is required. There is no such requirement in BC, as far as I know. Is this requirement only in Ontario. Just curious to know?

The recent information is in the following link:
Plz go through it.

Also I got the following reply from Indian Consulate in Toronto:

Dear Sir/Madame,

Thanks for your e-mail.
We have been given to understand by the Ontario Government after our meeting with them that immigrants from India would be allowed to get their G1 licences on the basis of their Indian licenses, which should be at least one year old. They would be asked to give an undertaking of its genuineness. Later on G2 licences can be obtained on the basis of authentications obtained directly by the applicants from the licensing office in India. A notification to this effect is being issued by the Ontario government to various licensing offices.

With best wishes,

Correct, in BC you dont need such verification, but its required in ontario.

For your license verification, ask your family/relatives/friends in India to contact the issuing RTO office and request them for a letter on their letter head stating mainly

license number
name on license
address as on license
validity
license class(motorcar/motorcycle...)

and then submit it to the MTO here, they will accept it.

Its not necessary, that it has to be on the offical letter head, mine was a computerized printout but it had the stamp of RTO and they accepted it.
