Hi ,
Could anyone tell me what is the process of returning Ontario car licence plate?
Actually I bought a new 2004 model car in Toronto and then moved to Montreal and recently changed to Quebec license plate so Ontario license plate is still lying with me
Can I simply sent the plate via Canada Post to MTO?Any MTO is OK or I need to send to that place where my car been registered ?
Will appreciate your feedback
Thanks

Ani you own that plate. I would suggest you to keep that plate with you but if you want to return it DO NOT send by post. Visit any MTO office and return it, if it is a noraml plate ( not personlized) you will get some refund (most likely it would be $10.00, I am not sure though).
Thanks and regards.

Hi Biomed,
Thanks your immidiate reply
I thought that if I am not returning the Ontario license plate then I
need to pay road tax in Ontario also
Even I am not returning the license plate do I need to call up MTO to cancel my ontario registration plate or by default it got cancelled when I transfered it to a Quebec license plate?
In USA actually most of the states ask to return the plates to respective DMVs but Canada might have different rule

Hi Ani
You are always welcome.
Once you won't renew the plate by not paying tax it will be expired automatically. If in future you plan to return here simply take that plate alongwith ownership of the car and get new tax sticker which would reactivate your plate in Ontario.
I am sorry I don't have idea about Quebec laws. I would sugget you to give them a call and clarify the matter with them.
Thanks and regards.
