Hasni :
Have you thought of the option of settling your wife and children in Toronto first and then living them in Toronto for 1 year, while you work in the Gulf?
Your wife and children can get used to Toronto and then advise you on the ground realities that exist here.
Many from Gulf do that, as Gulf offers such easy job oppertunities.

Dear HF, I appreciate your detailed reply. Got one question, when I landed here initially for short stay, I had my IDL and drove for almost 15 days. Does it mean that I can still drive for another two and half months on my IDL! Now I plan to come and drop my family, shall be staying with them for two months and intend to get my G license. Secondly about the cars, would it be a good idea to buy a car (if I find some good one), park it and go back. So that once I come to Canada again after around six months, at least I shall be having a car and may be able to start my moves rightaway. Do you agre with this idea ! Can you suggest some good links for cheaper car insurances. I have taken my driving reord from here and got it translated from Ilham Tamari, a recognized translator in Mississauga,...would that help in getting me modest insurance rates !
Given link is for the agency that helps prepare for security guard test, and charge around CAD 245, would it be helpful in getting security related jobs or there are again ines who do this while charging far less than this agency !! Pls do share some links if you know any !

Talking about P.Eng, first of all thanks for this useful info, I have done some research and learnt that even without having P.Eng...one can get a job in his profession. That's why I am not keeping P.Eng on my "to do" list for the moment. However OACETT seems a good option, if it is not that money and time consuming, may go for it.
@TK pls explain the info that you shared, at least for fun sake would like to experience them once :)

Thanks Hasni.
I am a busy man. What I have said is clear by itself. Please google for more specific info.

Regarding your other questions, You should buy a car when you are ready to use it. Car value goes down by the month. Driving instruction comes as a package like 20 hours driving. Also note that there will be a waitlist (1-3 months) in summer to do your driving test booking. So that will lead you to book in linsay (3 hours drive). This will cost $ 300 per drive there on the day of test. It is not as easy as it seems. Initially you are much better off in public transit. You can also rent a car for going to Niagra, ottawa etc...

THERE ARE NO SHORT CUTS IN LIFE...AND FOR A FAMILY MAN.... BE ON THE STRAIGHT AND THE NARROW.. THAT WILL SET A GOOD EXAMPLE FOR YOUR KIDS, FAMILY AND THE SOCIETY...

The Validity is for the FIRST 90 days. You have used it already. Renew it for a NEW ONE there and re-enter. You MIGHT BE able to get away with it.

It will be well worth your time and money to join a driving school. Most of them offer 10 in car driving lessons PLUS a Road Test included for about $350 +/- a few bucks. The money you spend will pay you back in the reductions that they provide to you over the years of Premia. So, Go for it. This one is an investment. Do get a certificate from the school when you complete the course.

People change cars here like they change their undergarments. It is of no use to you sitting idle. So, get one after you return here to settle down. Also there are other maintenance, insurance and license issues that will enter and you do not want to leave it to some one who cannot drive. The money you save by NOT Buying and leaving it stored will be well worth the wait. Your Translated documents will surely help. So, hang onto them and keep it in a safe place for future use. Alternately, bring a NEW one as you enter here to settle down.

As regards insurance, the agents change from time to time, my last response did give one such Insurance Agent and I want you to read the CD postings from the past to see how much we try to help those who want to come into Canada and those who are just entering into Canada and also those who are currently seeking help. You in turn should be able to do the same or similar helping to others when you feel you can jump into the foray and do a little better. The task is an on going project for all of us here. We appreciate every bit of it.

I do not want to crack any jokes in this response. My feeling is you should drop the idea of the SECURITY GUARD post. I have set the bar high for you and I would like to leave it that way. If perchance you want to get OACETT affiliation, then, it is your next best choice. Any other, DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT.

When you get a job as an understudy for a P.Eng., your options are limited. So, try and achieve the highest goal to derive the utmost satisfaction in your career and life. The rest is considered as 'also ran.'

Everything here has a basic cost. You will have to pay for it to get it. If it is FREE, you have already PAID for it. (And you don't know when and how?!)

TK, the flautist, has brilliant ideas and knows a lot of short cuts and I admire him not only for his frankness, he is bold enough to stand behind it and stand tall on a soap box and will yell at the top of his voice, so that the whole world will hear about it. I cannot take that away from him. But.. there is always a but, but it is with two tees. Sadly, he has become the butt of his own jokes, and it is of his own creation. that is because, one only would follow his suggestions or take it as a LAST RESORT.

You have been guided properly. Hope you find success in your life, with these suggestions, which are provided to you in a timely manner.

FH.

Sudesh G
I agree and pray god to grant me enough strength not to respond the useless nonsense replies that are posted all over repeatedly .

OP : No pun intended to your queries . IMHO if an individual ( read as immigrant ) has to depend on Welfare money or soup kitchens which is intended for homeless and helpless , one should RETURN IMMEDIATELY to his home country .
Due to my nature of business earlier I visited thousands of Community Housing all over Toronto . I never came across even a single Indian family among them .

Hasni:

Don't get too scared.
TK just gave tips for worst case scenario.
Child benefits / Employment Insurance will not effect you. But if you go on welfare assistance, you can't sponsor your eligible dependents immediately if that applies to you.
