Dear friends, with due respect to all the religions,..Is it true that newly immigrated Muslims students when admitted to schools are discriminated initially. A friend of my wife has shared her experience saying that her kids were given quite hard time initially because of their association with a particular religion. Please comment.
Pl do not start that kind of discussion here.
World is a very complex place .... Discrimination is a vague word and anyone can experience it at anywhere (even in their own home) within their own definition.
People from all over world comes here and building Canada ..... one of the very few best places to live in this world.
Come, settle and give your best to Canada to make it better further.
A case of exaggeration !
There is no question of School or the teachers discriminating against kids due to their religion or attire. Thats not Canada.
If other kids ignored or did not speak to the new kids (what else!) , thats a normal kid behavior, particularly when language or accent is a barrier. In few days kids accommodate each other.
So what experience was shared by the friend ? Seems like to me, a case of an issue within oneself !!

Gurram, I fully realize and understand that it is a very sensitive subject, but I think its upto us how we take it. Things only get charged when to take them to a certain direction. I have due respect for all the religions and I have candidly stated the same on start of my thread.
Please try to understand that we are new immigrants and discussing and listening on each and every issue that we may confront while being there. Some people do exaggerate things as San has said, and i also believe what my wife's friend has said, sounds something hard to believe. Also I shouldn't be surprised even if it is true to some extent, cuz as most of the friends has rightly said that discrimination is all around, fully agree. My point was just to have a double check and see if any other parent has also experienced it, and to what extent.
Dear FH, its not just the kids that won't speak, but teachers also seem to be involved. That's what my wife's friend said. She said that teachers will make the new students expose to things that will hurt their religious feelings, make them dance, make them listen high volume music, make them watch objectionable videos, etc.
@Hasni - I would say ask your wife's friend about which schooling zone does not have discrimination that you want to avoid and move to that schooling zone.
If he/she cannot come up with an school zone, then ask why is that they are still persisting with Canada?
All your queries can be answered by them, by gods grace I hope you find the right solution.
@cris that family is back in UAE now. Those kids have done their schooling and university edu from Canada. She was sharing their schooling experience with us. So you mean almost all the school zones have this issue to some extent! Did I get you right ?
Probably we are ignoring one factor, ie some families are too conservative and take notice of even very small things, I doubt this family belongs to that class. But again the question remains whether we should be prepared to face such issues or it's just something said beyond proportions.
