FH: I don't have any business idea, my husband is CA and he hasjust started his own practice. Now, we are not going to find or try job there in Toronto, but would definitely want to see what consulting oppurtunities it can offer to us. ifwe get some oppurtunities , we can move there very soon, may be next year.

I am travelling with two kids (one is just one year)so guest houses and serviced aptts were not working out. serviced apt in missisuaga are charging really high.I am looking for basements or walk out that are furnished(short term two months). Good basements (spacious ones) are mostly in Brampton area.

How much time it takes to receive PR cards, two or three months?

----

Processing times. :
This is not carved in stone. But generally they adhere to the time mentioned, except when holidays interfere. These days quoted here are for you to receive at the location that you ask them to send it to.

JOBS THAT EVERYONE DREAMS ABOUT. And you can get one if you try..!
$60K Minimum, 80K the going rate, $100K if you can command a post.
I am putting you in touch with a great website. See if you KNOW some one who can vouch for you. If you do know some one, then, you are all set. Take a good Look at the jobs and see what they are looking for and see if you have the knowledge of any of the Canadian Software and the understanding of the Tax systems and the ability to handle their Accounting. If you have additional Qualifications, then, you can go as high as $250K. This is reality here. You say you don't want to look and find a job? Mmmm... I am flabbergasted.

AND Good Luck.

Hello_Toronto,
Canadians are not that much starved to outsource work.
If you are CA and looking to find consulting jobs in a gap or 2 month, I am sorry to say that you will never get it.
You first need to work here to get the foothold of the profession. CA may be highly respected in India, but it means nothing in Canada. May be they need the equivalent of CA qualification in Canada like say CMA.
Regarding housing, two months stay means that the price will be high. So it is better for you to stay in Brampton where your husband may spend 30 mins extra (each way) in commute, but you will start hating the life for 2 months.

My question is, if you have negetive response in consulting oppertunities, will you abandon Canada or will you come later?

yes unless he enrols & finishes an equivalent programme over here like CGA, CPA , CMA etc..he won't get anything either consulting wise or job wise.

with just a CA from India, the best he can hope for is a low level book keeping job for $ 15 to $ 18/hr , doing basic stuff like Accounts Payable, Acoounts Receivable , Journal entries, General Ledger , Payroll etc. Even that's going to be hard to find & if he is lucky and has connections he might get it.

Other clerical and administrative duties like purchase orders, inventory, sales order will also be expected out of him if its a shipping, receiving, logistics, warehouse type company.

Even for that he will need to use computerised accounting software like Simply Accounting , Quick Books , Accpac etc. If he has advanced knowledge of MS Excel that will also help.

Your 3 month stay will cost you minimum $ 2,000 per month in basic rent , basic groceries, public transport, some local sight seeing within GTA...so budget for minimum $6,000 to $ 7,000 for that. This is frugal living I am talking about, nothing fancy.

And of course that mandatory trip to Niagara Falls..he he.

Note : Car not included in the above.

Food mostly cooking and eating at home or going to an occasional cheap Indian or Chinese buffet. White people food not included in this.

Apply for your PR card . If you want you can get a basic G1 learners Driving license too.you just have to give a written test . G2 & Full G license will take time..won't happen in 2-3 months.

With both PR & DL you will have very good photo ID's.

Depending on your plans you can also apply for SIN, Bank Account and maybe even OHIP i.e health card if you stay for 3 months or more.

I would advise you to complete all the above formalities so that when you come here next year permanently you are set. Otherwise again next yr you will have to wait 3 months before getting your OHIP.

Grocery Stores : Only go to Food Basics, No Frills & Freshco & Wal Mart.

Department Stores : Only go to Wal Mart. For other things go to Dollarama.

Cell Phone : Only go for WIND MOBILE . Do not go for Telus, Bell or Rogers.

Internet : Only go for third party resellers like Teksavvy , Distributel etc. Do NOT go for Bell, Rogers, Telus.

Long Distnace : Use plans from people like G3 Telecom etc.

just relax , enjoy life over here and do lot of sight seeing etc..while exploring job opportunities over here.

Use the public library and get a FREE library card to read books, newspapers etc.

stay away from scammers and get rich quick schemes.

Lot of internet scams and work from home scams and door to door selling scams and commission only based jobs and pyramid scams like Amway , Quick Star etc stay away from them.

Also scams to buy franchises and gas stations etc & other business and investment opportunities scams..stay away from them.you will end up losing your hard earned money in these :(

Explore the country and study the country right from healthcare, education, infrastructure, transit, job opportunities, work culture/ethics etc and then go back.

Adam,
I like your reply (not only this but a whole lot of others) because it is neither Positive nor Negetive. Yours posts tell only the Truth. A positive man will find the positiveness in it whereas the negetive man will find the negetiveness in it.

Keep up the good work.
