Hello Experts,
One of my friend has recently immigrated to Canada but he is stuck in strange problem. His Indian passport have following details
Given Name: Manoj Kumar
Surname: -
Actually his surname is Sharma but he didn't mentioned in passport as in his all educational certificate don't have Sharma.
Now in Canada, his details are taken into system like this
First Name: -
Last Name: Manoj Kumar
He is new and don't know how to get it fixed for First Name: Manoj and Last Name: Kumar
Few guys in Canada says that its not possible. Please help if someone have an idea about this?
Thanks in advance
is your friend already landed in Canada? what is your location?

Its a known issue.
Last Name is a mandatory id here ... so First Name is OK as being null ...
In the US , in a similar case they put FNU in the First Name or First Name Unknown.
In case needed , one may get it changed in Canadian Passport (after getting one) per what people have suggested above... I don't know if it is recommended before that as he could face some problems during citizenship.

Fido.
They screwed up my name in landing papers as well - took me close to an year to get all that corrected.
Similar to this, my last name was generic, and the real one I never used. To take this example, I had Manoj Kumar on my landing paper. The immigration guy at the Airport asked for my last name. I told him 'Sharma'. This stupid officer wrote the 'Sharma' before 'Kumar' right after 'Majoj'. When my PR came, to my amazement my name appeared like 'Manoj Sharma Kumar'.
Took me a whole year to send it back to CIC to get my record corrected on Landing paper, then on the PR card. Once that was done, I officially added 'Sharma' to my name.
What a nightmare, now when I think about it.
Thanks everyone for replies. All are suggesting to correct name in Indian Passport and then rest of the documents in Canada will be fixed?
Is it ok if he don't change anything and keep it the way it is now? any complications in future?
He is not landed yet and still in India.
