In one-year period - July 1, 2002 to June 30, 2003 - a total number of 199,159 permanent residents and 20,599 non-permanent residents came to Canada. Whereas in the same timeframe 55,584 left Canada. If we do the math we come up with a net inflow figure of 164,174. (Compare this to the total births of 331,522 and deaths of 227,630 in the same period. That is a net gain of 103,892).
Assuming that on an average the family size is two and the family brings in $12,000 each then the total works out to be $1.2 billion.
In the period under consideration about 24,000 Indians landed in Canada. Applying the same criterion they brought in $144 million.
These calculations do not include the 'head tax' in the form of landing fee we pay to come here.
The conclusion is that the total money added to the Canadian economy by PRs is nearly 1% of the GDP-not a big deal.
The big deal however is the push given to the economy by these PRs. You do not have to go very far to see this. Look at the booming housing market in Canada. Each house that is constructed adds 2.5 jobs. It is no wonder that when all the developed economies were showing negative growth, only the Canadian economy was booming.
No prizes for guessing why Canada encourages immigration.

'Sochi Samjhi Games'.
Sanjeev,
Although me is well settled as on day (less then 3 yrs) and bit satisfied with job but still I would say that this all is a "SOCHI SAMJHI CHAAL". No doubt about it.
It all is a well organized, planned and regulated game that keeps this country running. The economy is largely based on funds immigrants are coming with, the population growth is also based on new baby boomer immigrant population and more over immigrants also satisfy cheap job market requirement.
Recently one of my friend (AMRITDHARI SIKH) came from Dubai. Before coming he had a letter from one Canadian company to contcat it for a job in his own field. He contacted and was called for interview. Just looking at him the first question recruiters asked him " R U prepared to get your hair cut" .
That itself finished the interview. What to say? What is this?
