we want to carry spices-garam masala, chili powder etc. for the first month of our stay. how does customs react to that. anyone had problems with those items..we can avoid it if so, thanks.

It should not be a problem as long as the are throughly packed and not carried in the cabin baggage. However, why take a chance when all these spices are available out there.
However please avoid things which leak eg. dairy products etc.

When you come first time as an immigrant, you can bring whatever you can as your are migrating.

Yes spices are bit expensive and not as good quality as in India, so you should bring them.

because if u dont they ask u, how come u dont have spices? and then u say oh i have them. they will say oh we can fine u next time.
