I think I must be the most purana head on this site.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

any pet shop boys, phil collins, springsteen , Rod stewart , jimmy hendrix, led zep fans here ?
Above quote from Mr India

________________________________________________________

Yeah man know Rod Stewart from his Jeff Beck Days and before. I think his first band was known as "Faces". Ron Wood currently with the Stones used to play with him.Saw him early this year again.
Saw the Boss in 2002 here in TO.
Never seen Phil Collins and to tell you the truth don't know who Pet Shop boys are. And Led Zep and Hendrix? Read on

I can go right back to the early sixties to Bob Dylan, Cream, The Yardbirds, The Kinks,Bill Haley and the Comets, jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis the Pelvis, Cliff Richard, Bobby Darin, Dean Martin,Bobby Solo,Ol' Blue Eyes, Bryan Adams,Joe Cocker, The Boss
The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Monkees, The Troggs, Donovan,The Who (and their dada rock opera Tommy), Led Zeppelin, Ten Years After, Rainbow, Deep Purple, Janis Joplin, The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Allman Brothers, Traffic, Buffalongo, Taj Mahal, John McLaughlin, Santana, Police, Eurythmics, AC/DC, Guess Who, Judas Priest, The Doors, Motorhead, Sid Vicious,Madonna, Metallica, Dire Straits, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Duran Duran,Humble Pie, Cheap Trick, Jethro Tull,Pink Floyd, Velvet Underground, Steppenwolf, Iron Butterfly, Canned Heat, Fleetwood Mac, Quicksilver and more.... Not forgetting the greatest southpaw Dada guitarist of them all - Jimi Hendrix ( my fav). Oh man brings back memories of Slip Disc, Hell, Bullock Cart, the disco at the Taj and the other at The Oberoi- don't 'member their names now. They cahnged so many times.
Of course there's ABBA, Boney M , Bee Gees, Whitney Houston, The Supremes, Tina Turner, James Brown,Otis redding, Sly and the family Stone, The Jackson Five, M&M, 50 cent and tons of others
Bet yer guys are bored with all that name dropping.

In muh hey days, Clapton, The Who, Led Zep, Ten years After, Hendrix, Stones, Beatles, Steppenwolf, Jethro Tull, were my faves- pure dynamite all of them! I still listen to them and my child gets a heart attack! Do ya believe my child prefers Hindi filmi music- yeesh!

My fav songs

Clapton- "Layla". With Cream alonside Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce- "White room", "Sunshine of your Love"

The Who - Full album "Tommy" plus full album"Live at leeds" - voted the heaviest in its day.

Led Zep- " Stairway to Heaven", "Whole lotta love", "Communication breakdown", "Ramble on"- actually Led Zep 1 & 2 full albums are pure dynamite!

Hendrix- "Wild Thing" ,"Purple Haze" (is in my brain, lately things don't just feel the same) ,"Star Spangled Banner"

Stones-"Satisfaction" (when I am ridin' in my car and the man comes on the radio tellin' me a more and more about some useless information... 'cos he doesn't smoke the same cigarettes as me";). "Can't ya hear me knockin' "( She got cocaine eyes, she got speedfreak jives). "Start me up" "Dead Flowers" (Well I'll be in my basement room with a needle and a spoon and another girl to take my pain away";)

Beatles- Semolina Pilchard climbin' up the Eiffel Tower, Crabalocker fishwife pornographic priestess, boy you been a naughty girl you let your knickers down" - and yeah you can get a tan from standing in the English Rain. Did any of you see the made for TV flick "Yellow Submarine"?

Steppenwolf- "Born to be Wild" "God damn the Pusherman"(You know i smoke a lot of grass. lord I pop a lot of pills...)

Jethro Tull- "Locomotive breath", "Aqualung" (Snot runnin down his nose...) (And they excommunicate me on my way to Sunday school.....).

I forgot one other heavy group -Blach Sabbath-and "Paranoid"

There's a fav line of mine from Jim Morrison of the doors- "When I was way back in seminary school, they told me you could petition the Lord with prayer, petition the Lord with prayer.............. You cannot petition the Lord with prayer!"

Somebody out there stereotypin' desis?
ROCK ON!

Queen (although different from the above two bands) are another where it would be hard to find a bad song. Plus Farukh Balsara has some Indian links was fantastic, both as a musician and showman.

Above quote from Bush/Cheney HQ

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Farukh Balsara has *some?* Indian links? Pura bawa hai boss, puhlees- another Dada- "Sheer Heart Attack". And later on he got into opera. I saw the man perform with Montserrat- opera singer from Barcelona. Man, I am not so much into Opera but Freddie really was too muckin' fuch! a real all rounder! Aakir khaar boss apla Indian blood hai usme!

Bawa from Dadar isn't it? I understand he was born in Tanzania, but the family returned to India, he was educated at St Peter's in Panchgani before the family left for the UK.

The song that you are referring to was with Spanish opera singer Monserrat Cabale - called Barcelona - and opened the Barcelona Olympic games in 1992. Unfortunately, Freddie had died in 1991, so we didn't have the song live at the opening ceremony of the Olympics.......nostalgia eh?

Hey did anybody see Prince when he was here sometime earlier this year?
He did a 15-20 minute version of Led Zep's "Whole lotta love"- Mind blowin'. He drew climax after climax from his guitar.
