Hi Mr. Massood Joomratty,

My fathers name spelled in my Indian passport and all my academic doccuments is incorrect and it differs from what is there in his ( my father's passport ).

I would be applying for my canadian citizenship soon and also for sponsoring my parents later.

I am confused as to how and where this error can be corrected. Wheteher in India or here in Canada.
I will be going to India end of Feburary. I request you to please offer your comments and advise as to how this can be done.
Your help in this matter is highly appreciated.

Regards,

Ashar

Firstly, you have to realise that your query has nothing to do with Canadian immigration directly, which is what Mr Massood handles.

Correction of spelling in a passport - specially that of one's parent's name, should be one of the simplest amendment. However, if all your academic documents have that spelling, then it would be best to get your father's passport amended for spelling. But then if his documents have the spelling which is on his passport, he cannot get it changed just by filling a form.

If such be the case, you shall have to give an sworn affidavit to Indian passport authorities (can be in Canada too) on the basis of which you will be able to change the spelling in your passport to what is in your father's passport. My advice would be not to get his passport amended in case his documents have that spelling as mentioned in his passport. You may attach the affidavit along with a photocopy of your father's passport to your application for amendment of your passport.
