The connection is pretty decent for dial-up
But ifyou want high speed then you have to do your homework
& shop around

Unless you are planning to use DSL, or use someone elses telephone line, you will need to apply for a telephone line before internet connection.
Check out "Sprint Canada" or "Bell Canada" website thru google for procedure.

if you dont have a credit card in Canada, you will have to deposit approximately 200 CAD as security (refundable after 6-8months) for applying for a telphone line.

Sitting in Dubai before landing in Canada, this should not what you should be worrying about! It is not that complicated that you have to prepare for that before landing.
It seems this question is going to go in reverse order because you are yet to land so you do not have phone connection, residence, bank account, or computer in Canada.
Anyway you have computers in libraries here which you can book and use. Computer/internet usage is free in libraries.

we have already done our landing 8 months ago and have come back to dubai to wrap up things for good.
We have a laptop and a computer that would need to be connected to the net.
What would you recommend is a basic connection that one would have to get and how much to pay.
In dubai we have a dial up net work which we pay 20 dhs monthly and the speed is quiet ok for home users
and then there are the high speed connections which cost much more.
pls advise
